Lufthansa Ice Bucket Challenge And India Commercial

Lufthansa has uploaded a couple of cool videos lately that I figured would be worth sharing.

The first is of a Lufthansa MD-11 captain doing the ice bucket challenge. Pretty hilarious, though I'm kind of shocked he didn't even take his badge off while getting drenched:

Virgin Atlantic MasterCard (Up To) 90K Sign-Up Bonus

I've written in the past about the Virgin Atlantic MasterCard. It's not the most lucrative credit card out there given that I don't find it to be very rewarding for everyday spend, and I don't find their Flying Club miles to be all that valuable.

That being said, the previous sign-up bonus was marketed as offering up to 65,000 miles as a sign-up bonus, which was broken down as follows:

Qatar Airways A380 First Class Award Space

Qatar Airways first revealed their A380 schedule back in late April, when they announced that they'd inaugurate A380 service between Doha and London Heathrow as of June 17, 2014.

As soon as they updated the route to reflect the A380 they stopped releasing first and business class award space on those flights. That trend continued when they announced A380 service to Paris, and has also continued throughout the delivery delays.

As it stands now, the Qatar Airways A380 inaugural flight to London is scheduled for October 10, 2014, while the A380 inaugural to Paris is scheduled for October 16, 2014. However, I would bet that's not actually realistic, and would optimistically guess it will be closer to the end of the year before Qatar Airways actually starts flying the A380.

Review: AmEx Centurion Lounge New York LGA Airport

Last week American Express opened their latest airline lounge, which is the Centurion Lounge at New York LaGuardia Airport.

It's interesting to see a credit card company get in the business of building airport lounges, though I think it's brilliant. Over the past couple of years quite a bit of value has been lost in terms of the lounge privileges of the American Express Platinum Card. It used to get you access to American Admirals Clubs and US Airways Clubs, though that was discontinued in March. Furthermore, guesting privileges have been reduced at Delta SkyClubs as of May.

So now they're building their own lounges. As it stands their US lounge locations include Dallas Ft. Worth Airport and Las Vegas. Furthermore, over the coming months they'll be opening lounges in Miami and San Francisco.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Frankfurt To New York

Over the weekend I asked you guys how I should fly back from Europe to the US, and after reading your feedback went with the majority suggestion, which was Singapore Airlines business class from Frankfurt to New York. I transferred points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to book this ticket, which I accrued using the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Ink Plus® Business Credit Card.

Confession time -- I came into this flight expecting to be disappointed. For the past five years, all my longhaul travel on Singapore has been in first class. What ultimately makes Singapore Airlines so special is the service, and I figured that there's no way they could deliver on that with an 86 seat business class cabin. I even selected a seat in the last row of business class, figuring it would give me the slowest service and also a good overview of what can be expected.

Boy, was I wrong. Really, really wrong. This flight was possibly on par, if not better, than most of my Singapore Airlines first class flights.

American First Class Meal Ordering Changing September 1, 2014

File this under "things that don't really matter, but you can't help but wonder who thought of it."

American has long had a pretty straightforward way of taking first and business class meal orders. The system was abbreviated "FEBO," and stands for "Front Even Back Odd." Basically they'd start taking meal orders at the front of the cabin on even numbered flights, and at the back of the cabin on odd numbered flights.

In addition to that they've let you pre-order first and business class meals, so you can actually choose your meal in advance regardless of where you're seated.

Back in June, I released my annual reader survey – with a twist. To elicit more responses, I offered a free round-trip economy ticket. Boy, did I underestimate the number of people who would respond as a result! EVA Air Cuts Hello Kitty Service To Los Angeles

I love me some good airline marketing/advertising/partnerships, and there's no area that's more apparent than with EVA Air's Hello Kitty Service.

Basically EVA Air operates several routes with Hello Kitty themed aircraft. And they really are kittyrific, from the livery to the service to the food to the toilet paper to the entertainment.

Up until last year they only had Hello Kitty A330s, which operated shorthaul routes. However, they then launched their first longhaul Hello Kitty flight to Los Angeles, after repainting their first 777-300ER.

Qatar Airways A380 London Heathrow Inaugural Delayed Further

If you've been following the drama you know that Airbus and Qatar Airways are at an impasse over the delivery of their Airbus A380s.

HEAABAKATC (His Excellency Akbar Al Bakar aka The Chief -- how do you like them acronym?) wants us all to know that it's Airbus' fault, because they... well, he won't tell us what they actually did. We should ask Airbus. But if Airbus lies to us, then he'll tell us why. Rumor has it there are some "imperfections" with the interior, though there has to be more to the story, since that wouldn't take nearly half a year to fix.

Anyway, so far the inaugural Qatar Airways A380 flight between Doha and London has been pushed back more often than a regional jet flying out of JFK during a snowstorm. Here's a rundown of the scheduling disaster so far:
