An MH370 Theory So Crazy It Could Be True?
In general I don't pay much attention to conspiracy theories, though I've received no fewer than a dozen emails and messages from readers today with links to the New York Magazine article by Jeff Wise, entitled "How crazy am I think I actually know where that Malaysia Airlines plane is?"
When I first scrolled through the article and saw how long it was, I kind of thought twice about reading it.
But OMG, it was the best read I've had in a while. I don't know if there's any merit to the theory, but the 15 minutes I spent reading this story were hands down the most exciting part of my day.

Have You Won Thousands Of Hotel Points?
Last week I wrote about the new MobileSuites app, which will allow users to make requests of their hotel via the app, streamlining the communication between guests and the hotel.
To promote the launch of their app, the developers of MobileSuites offered One Mile At A Time readers the chance to win their choice of hotel points, as follows:

Double Your Club Carlson Points Earning, All Year Long Without a Promotion
@ckramer tweets, Club Carlson has a business program that will let a separate business account earn up to 10 points per dollar for eligible stays, in addition to the points earned by the guest into their own account. Over 750 Hilton Hotels In The US Aren’t Participating In Hilton’s Promotion
Yesterday I shared the details of Hilton's first of two global HHonors promotion in 2015, entitled Double Your HHonors.
Through this promotion members can choose either double HHonors base points or double airline miles for stays at qualifying hotels between March 1 and May 31, 2015.
While the details of Hilton's promotion were released yesterday, they only unveiled the list of non-participating hotels today.

Register (Just in Case!) for Hilton Double Points or Miles
This isn’t an exciting promotion, but you should register anyway. Even if you don’t regularly stay at HIlton properties. Double points are better than single points, if only marginally so. Did United Operate A Flight For The Chairman Of The Port Authority?
Here's an interesting story from Bloomberg about how a once weekly United flight between Newark and Columbia may have been operated exclusively for the Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Via Bloomberg:
"For 18 months, a 50-seat regional jet left United Airlines’ Newark hub each Thursday night bound for Columbia, S.C. On Monday mornings, United Express flew back to Newark."

And We’re Back (With New Blog Features)!
Thanks for your patience yesterday. As I explained, the blog was undergoing some scheduled maintenance in the evening, which went smoothly this time around. While the blog should have still been visible as usual, comments were disabled for a couple of hours.
The updates weren't nearly as big as the blog redesign from last summer, but some minor (hopefully positive) changes have been made!
So, what’s new?

Starwood’s New Platinum Suite Night Award Alternatives
In late-January I wrote about how this year Starwood Preferred Guest will be introducing an alternative to Suite Night Awards for Platinum members.
The Suite Night Awards are a relatively new addition as it is. They were added as a Platinum perk back in 2012, as part of a suite of new benefits for elite members. They were designed to make Platinum members stay more, since they're only given to Platinum members with 50 elite qualifying nights (as opposed to those qualifying based on 25 stays).
It looks like Starwood has finally announced the perks that Platinum members can choose in lieu of 10 Suite Night Awards. Via View from the Wing, starting March 9, 2015, Platinum members who reach the 50 night threshold will have the option between the following:

Earn Starpoints For Uber Rides
Starwood really seems to be leading the way on the hotel front when it comes to creating new value-add partners with other travel providers.
In early 2013 Crossover Rewards was launched, whereby SPG and Delta members receive reciprocal points and benefits (though there are quite a few exclusions). On the airline front that was later extended to Emirates with the introduction of Your World Rewards. Starwood also has a partnership with Caesars in Las Vegas.
It looks like Starwood is leading the way in expanding this benefit to yet another aspect of the travel experience -- SPG members can now earn Starpoints for Uber rides!

In 2 Weeks Starwood Will Introduce New Benefit Choices for Platinum Elites. Here’s What They Are.
Last month I broke the news that Starwood would be introducing choices for Platinum members in lieu of ‘Suite Night Awards’ for those members who prefer a different rewards upon reaching 50 nights. I speculated that those new choices would include bonus points and award redemption discounts. But Starwood’s Senior Vice President for SPG and […]
