An MH370 Theory So Crazy It Could Be True?

In general I don't pay much attention to conspiracy theories, though I've received no fewer than a dozen emails and messages from readers today with links to the New York Magazine article by Jeff Wise, entitled "How crazy am I think I actually know where that Malaysia Airlines plane is?"

When I first scrolled through the article and saw how long it was, I kind of thought twice about reading it.

But OMG, it was the best read I've had in a while. I don't know if there's any merit to the theory, but the 15 minutes I spent reading this story were hands down the most exciting part of my day.

Did United Operate A Flight For The Chairman Of The Port Authority?

Starwood’s New Platinum Suite Night Award Alternatives

In late-January I wrote about how this year Starwood Preferred Guest will be introducing an alternative to Suite Night Awards for Platinum members.

The Suite Night Awards are a relatively new addition as it is. They were added as a Platinum perk back in 2012, as part of a suite of new benefits for elite members. They were designed to make Platinum members stay more, since they're only given to Platinum members with 50 elite qualifying nights (as opposed to those qualifying based on 25 stays).

It looks like Starwood has finally announced the perks that Platinum members can choose in lieu of 10 Suite Night Awards. Via View from the Wing, starting March 9, 2015, Platinum members who reach the 50 night threshold will have the option between the following:

Earn Starpoints For Uber Rides

Starwood really seems to be leading the way on the hotel front when it comes to creating new value-add partners with other travel providers.

In early 2013 Crossover Rewards was launched, whereby SPG and Delta members receive reciprocal points and benefits (though there are quite a few exclusions). On the airline front that was later extended to Emirates with the introduction of Your World Rewards. Starwood also has a partnership with Caesars in Las Vegas.

It looks like Starwood is leading the way in expanding this benefit to yet another aspect of the travel experience -- SPG members can now earn Starpoints for Uber rides!
