How to Pack for a 2 Week Trip Using Only Your Carry-On

We left for our trip on Monday. Sunday was our day of scramble. We had to drop off Austin (our dog) with friends, tie up loose ends, double check everything … and pack. We spoke with family and friends throughout the day and, of course, they all asked: are you packed and ready to go? […]

“One Card to Replace Them All” Ready to Ship!

When ‘Coin’ was announced back in November, an app you’d manage on your phone and a single card onto which you could load your many credit cards… and gift cards.. cough.. it was greeted with a great deal of excitement. (See “One Card to Replace Them All (in Your Wallet)”) There were skeptics. The battery […]

Giveaway: Women’s Amenity Kit from Etihad

Every Friday is giveaway day. Comment to win! I recently flew Etihad from Los Angeles to Abu Dhabi—their longest route! Thankfully, I had a nice comfy seat suite courtesy of American Airlines miles. As part of the trip, I received a nice amenity kit, and this time I asked for the women’s version. I have…

The New Heart of Old Athens

The pillars of the Acropolis are glowing in sunset gold and crimson glory as I meander down Ermou Street to Monastiraki—a pedestrian enclave in the heart of old Athens. The lively scene is a far cry from the smoggy, traffic-clogged city I remember in my youth. Now Athens is the place to be.

Dear Hotels: I’m Not Traveling With The Brady Bunch Or Concubines!

Picking up on my post earlier about hotels customizing experiences, is there a way for me to explain to hotels that I'm not traveling with the Brady Bunch and/or a harem of concubines?!

During three of my most recent hotel stays I've been upgraded to accommodations with extra beds.

Lots and lots of extra beds.

At the Hotel Pulitzer in Amsterdam I was recently "upgraded" to a family room, which featured a second level with extra beds.

Qantas US Flight Changes

Qantas has been undergoing some major restructuring lately due to huge losses. The most profitable aspect of their operations seem to be their flights to the US, given those routes still don't see too much competition from other carriers.

As part of their efforts to improve profitability, Qantas actually added A380 service to Dallas, by cutting A380 service to Hong Kong and retiming their flight between Melbourne and London to create less ground time at Heathrow.

It seems that the international restructuring is continuing, both in terms of tightening up the schedule and in terms of adding more routes and frequencies. The changes include the following:
