When travel can’t cure grief

I ran so hard I couldn’t see the way it made everything worse. But it wasn’t depression that nearly killed me. It was my inability to ask for help.

Insider Guide to Portugal’s Southern Coast

Portugal is made for wanderers. From the top of the Moorish remnants of Castelo de São Jorge, Lisbon cascades downhill in all directions, new paths beckoning at every turn. Surf camps dot the 215-mile stretch south of the storied capital city. Part of the region known as the Alentejo, this shore is far quieter than the Algarve beaches at the country's southern edge.

They Ran Out Of Food In Etihad First Class… AGAIN!!!

As many of you may recall, I flew the inaugural Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi to Los Angeles in first class.

For the most part I love Etihad first class -- the seat is quite comfortable and private, service is fairly good, and the food concept is well thought out (in theory), with their onboard chef and dine on demand menu.

The problem is that they don't load enough food.

Etihad has a "dine on demand" concept so you can eat what you want when you want, but on my flight to Los Angeles had almost nothing left four hours before arrival. That's a bit embarrassing for an inaugural flight, but I figured I was just really unlucky, as there's *no way* that can be the norm on one of the world's top airlines.

Unless that airline is Etihad, apparently.

Why American Has Its Frequent Flyer and IT Priorities Right (and Randy Petersen is Wrong)

Doug Parker said that American AAdvantage wouldn’t be going revenue-based at this point, that their key metric is combining the AAdvantage program with Dividend Miles, and that once they accomplish that they’ll evaluate what’s next. In his opening remarks to the September issue of Inside Flyer, Randy Petersen seems to push for a revenue-based program […]

Malaysia Airlines Bucket List Contest — Bad Taste, Or?

In addition to the two horrible tragedies that have occurred with MH370 and MH17, I certainly also sympathize with the airline as such. They're in a horrible situation, both financially and in terms of morale.

I give them credit for trying some creative things to get passengers on planes, though it seems they may have crossed the line with the contest they launched earlier in the week, entitled "My Ultimate Bucket List." Through the contest, travelers in Australia and New Zealand were asked to enter the destinations that are on their "bucket list," for a chance to win a roundtrip ticket.
