Department of Transportation Has Announced an Audit of Frequent Flyer Programs

Earlier this year the Supreme Court limited the ability of consumers to sue frequent flyer programs, suggesting that the Airline Deregulation Act prevents state law claims against frequent flyer programs because it requires that all regulation of the airlines be done at the federal level. Strictly speaking you could sue for direct breach of contract […]

LifeMiles Award Chart Devaluation Coming

Since joining the Star Alliance a bit over two years ago, Avianca's LifeMiles program has proven to be one of the more useful programs for premium cabin Star Alliance redemptions. They had a rough time at first, as they made a few award chart changes without notice, which were met with a lot of frustration by members.

Back in July, LifeMiles announced that they would be devaluing their award chart as of October 15, 2014. Of course nobody likes to see award chart devaluations, though to their credit they gave plenty of advance notice, which I far prefer to their previous system of unannounced devaluations. A few days after they announced the changes, they released their new Star Alliance award chart, which kicks in then. The changes are substantial though not horrible, in my opinion.

Korean Air SkyPass Online Award Search Improved

I've written extensively about Korean Air SkyPass in the past. It's one of my favorite frequent flyer programs, and after American AAdvantage, it's the mileage currency I've redeemed the most for my own travels this year. So far this year I've flown the following flights using Korean Air SkyPass miles:

-- Korean Air First Class 777-300ER Los Angeles to Sao Paulo

-- Korean Air First Class A380 Seoul Incheon to Los Angeles

-- Korean Air First Class 777-200 Tokyo Narita to Seoul Incheon

-- China Southern First Class A330 Guangzhou to Tokyo Narita

-- China Southern First Class A380 Los Angeles to Guangzhou
