United Names a New Chief Information Officer: What Advice Would You Give Them?
United announced a new Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “Linda [Jojo]‘s significant experience leading IT organizations and running complex business and consumer systems will be a tremendous asset to United as we advance our technology to become more efficient and better serve our customers and employees,” said Jeff Smisek, United’s chairman, president and […]

LOT Polish Award Space Now On United.com
In a way there's an inverse correlation between award availability and the ease of searching that space online. In other words, as much as I appreciate when airlines make it easy to book award tickets online, it also means there's a lot more competition for those seats.
For example, American lets you book many of their partner airlines directly through their website, but not Cathay Pacific. As annoying as it is to have to call to book, I actually prefer it that way, because it means there's less competition for those seats.
United has a fairly comprehensive website when it comes to displaying partner airline award space, though historically they haven't displayed Brussels Airlines and LOT Polish award space. These two airlines also happen to have extremely good award space, so I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that's at least partly due to the fact that it's not bookable through United's website.

Christopher Elliott Joining BoardingArea
Well this place is about to get a lot more interesting!
For those of you not familiar with Christopher Elliott, he's a self proclaimed "consumer advocate" with a "rescue complex" that's "fighting the good fight."
Now if you ask me, "consumer advocate" seems to translate to him helping people that can't read.
Did you fail to read the terms & conditions of a promotion and are angry at a travel company and swear you'll never do business with them again? Then Chris is your guy, as he'll reach out to the travel provider and make things "right" (and by "make things right" I mean quite the opposite, since he's basically getting the "victims" a one time exception because of his influence, which does nothing to help the average consumer).

Air China 747-8 Flights To Frankfurt As Of 2015
A few days ago I wrote about Air China being the next airline to take delivery of the passenger version of the Boeing 747-8, which is one of my favorite planes in the sky.
As is the norm when an airline first takes delivery of a new plane, they'll initially be flying it on domestic routes as a way of familiarizing crews with the aircraft, before commencing longhaul operations early next year. In the case of Air China, they'll be flying the 747-8 between Beijing and Guangzhou as of October 11, 2014.
Just today, Air China has announced their first longhaul 747-8 route. I predicted it would be between Beijing and Los Angeles -- I was wrong. It looks like Air China will first be flying the 747-8 between Beijing and Frankfurt.
