Here’s Something Travel Providers Don’t Seem to Understand: Coffee Fuels Business Travel

I’ve written before about the monumental importance of hotel coffee. A business hotel needs to be able to provide coffee 24 hours a day. There are lots of ways to do this: in-room machines, club lounge, lobby, and even room service. The coffee needs to be drinkable, and that includes making it possible to get […]

20 epic treehouses around the world

More and more people are building creative treehouses for use as hotels, restaurants, teahouses, or occasionally as a means of communicating with extraterrestrials (seriously! -- see the Beach Rock Treehouse below).

Delta Wants To Triple Presence in Seattle

Watching Delta's growth in Seattle over the past two years has been amazing. They've gone from only having a small presence at the airport, to having nearly a dozen longhaul international flights per day, plus a countless number of domestic flights as well.

Of course this kind of growth took some dirty work -- specifically, the "Battle in Seattle" that they've been having with Alaska Airlines. When they first announced their international growth it was positioned as a partnership with Alaska, whereby Alaska would be providing the domestic feed for Delta's international flights. Little did Alaska know that Delta was just using them short term to facilitate growth, while long term Delta had plans to provide most of their domestic feed themselves.

But it looks like Delta's current growth is just the beginning. Delta presently has 11 gates at SeaTac Airport, but is aiming for 30.

Register Now For Amex Small Business Saturday 2014!

As I wrote about in September, American Express Small Business Saturday is returning this year. This is a promotion whereby American Express card members can register to receive a statement credit for purchases made at eligible small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (which this year is November 29, 2014). This year, American Express is offering a $10 statement credit for each qualifying transaction, up to three times per card (potentially for a total of $30 of statement credits per card).

Registration has just gone live, and is open until November 29, 2014 or whenever the registration cap is reached, so you'll want to register sooner rather than later to be on the safe side. Enrollment literally takes just a few seconds, as you just have to enter your name, American Express card number, and email address.

Here are the basic details of this year's Small Business Saturday promotion:

The Ancient Bowling Alley

A Good Soundcloud Playlist Here’s a playlist on Soundcloud I’ve been listening to lately. If you have one too, please add it to the comments! Daily Photo – The Ancient Bowling Alley Okay maybe “ancient” is the wrong word… I'm not even really sure how old something has to be before that word can be […]

Major US Airline Planning to Reduce First Class Legroom Plus an Easy Free $10

News and notes from around the interweb: Runway Girl Network thinks a major US airline is going to reduce seat pitch in domestic first class and introduce similar seats as an international premium economy. Much of the piece sounds like implausible speculation, but one or both of these basic ideas seem plausible. Passenger charged over […]

Weekly Review: November 15, 2014

Hello from Dubai!

Earlier today I had high tea with my Dad at the Burj al Arab -- just one of many "highs" so far on this trip. I'll have lots more updates and videos throughout the week, but so far this has hands-down been the best trip of my life, and it's just getting started.

Why I Left United Airlines: Not all Reasons are Equally Valid

There’s a new New Yorker article that’s getting lots of play, “Why I Left United Airlines” Most of the complaints in the piece are complaints about the airline industry generally which are then used as a general indictment of mergers. And while I think that mergers generally fail to deliver on their promises to shareholders […]

The Best Emirates Flight? Ever?

"If you have never flown Emirates first class you have never flown first class."

At least that's what my dad said to my mom when we were FaceTiming her this morning.

I remember my first time on Emirates, which was possibly the most excited I've ever been about a flight. That's because I didn't actually book Emirates, but rather for reasons I couldn't figure out, British Airways rebooked me on them after a small delay, despite having a really long connection. The element of surprise on that trip was amazing, as I never thought I'd have the opportunity to fly with Emirates in first class.

And I think my excitement was reflected in that trip report.

Well, I think my flight on Emirates from Los Angeles to Dubai with my dad on Thursday was even more fun. I had a front row seat to a level of excitement that I don't think I've ever witnessed before.
