United Global Services Members Now Get Lufthansa First Class Lounge Access

In December Lufthansa added a nice perk for their top tier HON Circle members. This status requires 600,000 status miles every two years. With this new benefit, HON Circle members receive access to United Global First Lounges when traveling in business class on Lufthansa or United. This includes the lounges in Chicago, Hong Kong, London, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Washington.

While admittedly United Global First Lounges aren't all that nice, they're better than the United Clubs for sure. My assumption at the time was that this wouldn't be reciprocal, since I assumed Lufthansa was just paying United some amount of money to make the flying experience more pleasant for their top tier elites.

And I especially assumed that since Lufthansa is among the strictest airlines when it comes to first class lounge access rules. They only allow first class passengers on Lufthansa/Swiss and HON Circle members to access their first class lounges. So they're much more difficult to access than United Global First Lounges.

American’s Lucrative Premium Travel Mileage Bonuses Now Posting

As a reminder, American Airlines announced a 2015 mileage promotion that will offer bonus miles to AAdvantage and Dividend Miles members for eligible first and business class fares. This is huge for those who fly American and pay for premium fares and frankly I’m surprised that it isn’t targeted and lasts the entire year. In […]

Delta Changes Award Chart Just One Week Into the New 2015 Program

Earlier I showed that Delta was charging more for some awards than their published maximum ‘level 5′ prices. I gave the example of West Palm Beach – Honolulu. The award chart showed a maximum possible price of 90,000 miles each was in Delta’s premium cabin. But I showed that itineraries were pricing at higher than […]

After the terrorist attack in Paris, pick up your weapon and go fight

13 Flight Attendants Fired For Insubordination… HUH?!?

Here's an absolutely crazy story. Via USA Today:

'Thirteen flight attendants who were fired by United Airlines for refusing to fly from San Francisco to Hong Kong because of a security concern have filed a federal complaint to get their jobs back.

Before United Flight 869 took off July 14, crewmembers noticed the words "BYE BYE" and two faces drawn in oily residue on the plane's tail, according to the 26-page complaint filed Tuesday with the Labor Department. One face was smiling but the other was "devilish," the complaint said.'

I Heart My City: Tim’s Cologne

Tim Steins is no stranger to Cologne. Born 30 kilometers north of this German city, he spent his childhood exploring Cologne on the weekends with friends in tow. He now channels his hometown pride into the Spotted by Locals blog while working for a media analysis agency. Though he's lived in numerous places around Europe, Tim recognizes the "heart-warming spirit" of his current home: "Cologne is not a city, it's a feeling."

Spirals and Geometry in the Eisenhower Building, Washington, D.C.

The Travel Blogging Summit that I attended in D.C. last month was held in the Eisenhower Building, around the corner from the White House, and a formidable structure in its own right: But perhaps more miraculous than its exterior were the spirals inside of it, ones I think I would have missed had it not […]

Airlines Crack Down on Inflight Photography… While Delta Now Officially Encourages It!

It’s common for airlines to have photography policies, even if they aren’t well known or publicized and even if they are ignored for the most part. They usually are something like “you may photograph your own personal events” (which is fairly undefined) but may not photograph crew or equipment. People break this rules every day […]

Nutty Korean Air Executive Indicted, Could Face Up To 15 Years In Jail

Here’s your weekly update about Heather Cho, the nutty Korean Air executive who in December had an A380 bound for Seoul Incheon returned to the gate after she was displeased with the way she was served nuts. This story just took a turn for the whole-lot-more interesting, as she has now been indicted and could face up to 15 years in jail.

Last week I wrote about how she was being detained while her case was being heard, due to the cover ups by some Korean Air and government officials.

She has now been indicted on five charges. Via The Washington Post:
