Iberia’s Devalued Avios Program Has A Bright Spot

Yesterday I posted about the devaluation to British Airways’ Executive Club program, which kicks in for bookings made as of April 28, 2015. There’s another Avios program What makes Avios quirky is that they’re not just issued by British Airways, but also by Iberia. Except Iberia has a separate loyalty program, Iberia Plus. The British…

Throwback Travel: Sledding in Central Park

The time: December 1960, New York City. The place: Central Park, no doubt following the season’s first snowstorm on December 11. Meanwhile, audiences applaud the new Lerner and Loewe musical "Camelot" on Broadway and newly elected John F. Kennedy prepares to assume the American presidency. Here are a few other interesting intersections.

Will British Airways Adjust Avios Earnings Rates On Partner Airlines?

Yesterday I posted about the changes that British Airways will be making to the Executive Club program as of April 28, 2015. We're seeing changes on both the earnings and redemption side, and not surprisingly, the changes mostly suck. But that's kind of to be expected given the landscape of the industry in 2015.

The cuts on the Avios earnings side are in some cases huge. As a reminder, here's a comparison of the old and new earnings rates for travel on British Airways.

However, how do the earnings rates change for travel on partner airlines? In other words, if you fly American and credit to British Airways Executive Club, will the number of Avios you earn per trip change?

Should American AAdvantage Members Be Worried Now That Joint Venture Partner British Airways Has Devalued.. Big Time?

With British Airways gutting their program — eliminating the principle that one mile flown earns one mile, reducing mid-tier elite mileage bonuses, and substantially increasing the cost of premium cabin award travel — I’ve had several questions about what this means for American AAdvantage frequent flyers since the two airlines aren’t just alliance members but […]

United Diminishes Partner Mileage Earnings Rates

Over the past couple of years we've seen Delta and United both switch to at least somewhat revenue based frequent flyer programs. Delta and United both:

-- Require you to spend a certain amount of money to get status

-- Award redeemable miles based on how much you spend as opposed to how much you fly

-- Still award elite qualifying miles based on how much you fly

In other words, to be rewarded you can't just spend a lot or fly a lot. You have to do both. And that's fair enough...

Here’s What Happens When Alec Baldwin “Gets Bumped” From First Class on Delta…

The Alec Baldwin story comes to us from the New York Daily News so it’s a bit hyperbolic. The lead is that Baldwin “was bumped to coach on a red-eye home from Sundance” although reading the story he appears to have had a first class ticket but he changed flights onto one without any first […]
