Asiana Adding More First Class Capacity To Los Angeles

Asiana began their longhaul A380 service between Seoul Incheon and Los Angeles as of last fall, and just recently announced that they'll expand A380 service to New York JFK as of June 13, 2015.

Asiana's route to New York JFK was previously operated by a Boeing 777-200ER in a three class configuration, meaning it featured a first class cabin. A majority of Asiana's 777s are in a two class configuration (without first class), so I was kind of curious which route they'd next put the three class 777 on, given that they no longer needed it for JFK. As I explained in the previous post:

"Now the question remains as to which route will get the 777-200 which is currently operating the New York JFK route. This is one of the 777s with their new first class product, while most of their other 777s are in a two class configuration, without a first class cabin. So that will be a big upgrade for whichever route gets it. My money is on either the second daily Los Angeles flight or the Chicago flight."

Comments Are Back, For Now

Our relaxing evening at the "blog spa" did not go quite as planned. For those just joining, comments were down on the blog for a few hours while the tech team tried to push some updates through.

For reasons that sound plausible (but I don't quite understand), some technical issues got in the way, and we're not going to be able to make the planned updates.

So spa day is canceled, sadly, and we'll have to try again later in the week.

São Paulo Pedestrian Signal Lights in São Paulo, Brazil

As one of the most populous cities on the planet, the sprawling megalopolis of São Paulo is not always easy to navigate, but a number of the crosswalk lights unique, lighting up with the vague silhouette of a notable landmark nearby, making the traffic lights an attraction to themselves.

Some of the pedestrian street signals in São Paulo look a lot different from the ordinary ones found all across the world. They're all unique clues leading to different sights in each area respectively. The symbol depicts whatever there is to see nearby whether it's theaters, architectural landmarks, museums, or just something characteristic of the area like the Japanese inspired street lightning in the district of Liberdade.

The first lights were installed during a 30-day trial back in 2013 around the Monumento às Bandeiras close to the Ibirapuera park. The idea was to encourage tourism in São Paulo and soon the lights became permanent and more lighted sights followed.

So if you are out and about in São Paulo and see one of these signal lights; stop and take a look around, there might be something worth seeing right around the corner or even right in front of you.
