US Airways Now Imposing Astronomical Fuel Charges on Iberia Award Bookings

It is generally not easy to find premium cabin award availability to Europe with oneworld airlines unless you are willing to pay the ridiculously high fuel surcharges imposed by British Airways. Taking BA out of the equation, the only oneworld airline that I would say constantly offers better-than-average premium cabin availability is Iberia. The two […]

Should I Transfer Amex Membership Rewards When Offered a Transfer Bonus?

American Express Membership Rewards periodically provides a percentage bonus when transferring points to specific travel partners. Most recently, there was a 20% bonus when transferring to Aeromexico’s mileage plan, and previous to that, we saw a 40% bonus to British Airways. More points, miles and Avios are always a good thing, but do these transfers […]

How Air Force One Can Defend the President from Attack

Business Insider has a piece on the how the President’s plane can defend itself. Air Force One — technically whatever plane the President is onboard but currently a Boeing 747-200 (and eventually a new 747-8) — costs over $200,000 an hour to operate. Speaking of ‘operate’ there’s an onboard operating room staffed by a doctor […]

To Stop Insanity, It’s Not Just About Doing Things Differently

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

-attributed to Albert Einstein, but likely apocryphal ***Whoever said it, you’ve probably heard this quotation at some point. And in one way or another, you’ve probably fallen into the trap of doing the same thing over and over, all the while expecting a different outcome. I think the real danger of going insane doesn’t come from something new, but rather from something that we’ve been doing for a while. Most of us are smart enough to realize that if we try something new and it doesn’t work, we can’t just keep trying the same way and expect different results. We might try again, but we’ll usually switch up the tactic. Even mice in a maze will learn to adapt and attempt different solutions.

Is This The World’s Most Expensive Airline Ticket?

Earlier today I posted about how Etihad plans to launch A380 flights between Abu Dhabi and New York as of December 1, 2015.

While I've flown the incredible A380 First Class Apartment, there's no arguing that the most hyped up aspect of the plane is The Residence, which is a three room suite with private butler service. There's simply nothing else like it in commercial aviation.

And for that matter there's simply nothing like the pricetag of it either. ;)

American Express Shutting Down Target Redbird Accounts

Reader J. who asked not to be further identified forwarded this email that he received, shutting down his Redcard account. (It’s often referred to colloquially as ‘Redbird’ rather than its proper Redcard name because of its similarities to the American Express Bluebird cards co-branded with Walmart.) American Express apparently decided they didn’t like his loading […]

Want to Go on a Disney Vacation? Try Points and Miles, or It Will Cost You

I read an interesting article on Frommer’s recently regarding Disney vacations and how they are becoming increasingly unattainable for middle class families. With the price of theme park tickets doubling over the past decade, Disney adding upscale hotels with rates topping $1,000 per night, and the addition of “exclusive” experiences that are sold at a […]

Understanding The New Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator Cards

As we learned last October, US Airways Dividend Miles will be merged into American AAdvantage in the second quarter of this year (between April 1 and June 30, 2015).

American's co-branded credit cards are presently being issued by Citi (which include the Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage MasterCard and CitiBusiness / AAdvantage Platinum Select World MasterCard), while US Airways' co-branded credit card (the US Airways Premier World MasterCard) is presently being issued by Barclaycard.

Once the two programs merge in the second quarter, Barclaycard won't be able to issue new AAdvantage credit cards anymore, though they will be able to continue to offer AAdvantage credit cards to existing cardmembers.
