Why Americans need to travel more

In 2014, a poll found that 42% of Americans didn’t take a single vacation day. That can't be good. We owe it to ourselves, to our personal happiness, to take the time off we deserve.

Chase Freedom Bonus Categories Change Next Week

One of the best features of the Freedom card from Chase is that it offers bonus categories that change each quarter where you can earn up to 5x points per $1 on $1,500 worth of purchases per quarter at certain merchants. Today’s Daily Getaways: Buy Club Carlson Gold Points Cheaply

Daily Getaways, which is a promotion sponsored by the US Travel Association, has returned as of this week. Over the next five weeks all kinds of travel packages will be on sale, starting weekdays at 1PM ET.

On some days there will be lots of competition for the travel packages, while other days they’ll be quite easy to snag. Personally I’m most excited about the travel packages offering hotel points, such as the IHG points from yesterday (that one didn't sell out quickly given that there were over 7,000 packages available).

Through today's promotion, Daily Getaways is offering packages of 50,000 or 100,000 Club Carlson Gold Points. It's worth noting that there are only a total of 150 packages for sale, so this is more like a lottery than anything else, given that there will presumably be lots of demand for these packages.

YOU DON’T SEE THIS EVERY DAY: Airline Refunds and Apologizes for a Fee They Were Correct to Charge

Aer Lingus refunded a 214 euro charge for transporting a man’s child. He booked travel for a child who was less than 2 during the outbound portion of the trip but turned 2 while gone and was no longer eligible for infant pricing. Children under age 2 are generally eligible to fly in a parent’s […]

How Much Weight Should Be Put Into State Department Warnings?

I’ll be honest — I seldom read U.S. State Department warnings before visiting a particular country. Normally, I just purchase a cheap ticket, think about what appears to be a good place to visit, and then off I go. I don’t necessarily head off to Afghanistan, Sierra Leone or the Sudan, but I might consider […]

Getting Lost in the Souk

The finishing touch by MacPhun! I used MacPhun Intensify to get some of this final sharpness. I use it a lot now… another cool one is MacPhun Tonality which is a quick black&white kinda program I also recommend! Not having a plan… …still seems to be one of the best plans of all when going […]

The Real Reason Creflo Dollar Wanted A Gulfstream G650

A couple of weeks ago I posted about Creflo Dollar, the mega-church preacher who wanted his congregation to fund a $65 million Gulfstream G650 for him. Because if each of his 200,000 members donated "just" $300-and-some-odd-dollars, he'd already be there -- it's that easy!

Here's the fundraising video he made explaining why he needs a new G650 (I'm not kidding, that's actually the fundraising video, and not a parody).

Now, while I'm no stranger to trying to crowd source air travel, I don't do it in the name of the "prosperity gospel." ;)

You’ll Never Guess Emirates’ Next US Destination

Earlier today I posted about how Emirates announced they would be adding a second daily flight between Dubai and Seattle, as of July 7, 2015. The flight will be operated by a Boeing 777-200LR.

Emirates' first flight to Seattle was added only a few years ago, and it will soon be Emirates' only US route with twice daily flights (though JFK gets 4x daily flights). Some have suggested that the route was basically being added to shuttle Boeing parts between Seattle and Dubai, which wouldn't surprise me.

Well, apparently that wasn't Emirates' only US route announcement today. Emirates also announced their newest US destination. Now, if you asked me a few hours ago what Emirates' next US destination would be, I would have guessed Miami, Newark, or Atlanta, with near certainty.

Well, Emirates' latest US destination will be Orlando, Florida. That's right, Orlando.
