Aer Lingus Business Class Awards Wide Open This Summer

As most of you probably know by now, British Airways Executive Club is devaluing their award chart for bookings made as of April 28, 2015. While the cost of their most economical redemptions stay the same (economy on shorthaul flights), premium cabin and longhaul redemptions are in many cases substantially going up in price.

Arguably the single best use of British Airways Avios for transatlantic flying is for Aer Lingus' flight between Boston and Dublin -- it costs just 25,000 Avios one-way in business class with minimal fuel surcharges.

I've written about this before, and have even flown Aer Lingus business class from Boston and Dublin and from Dublin and Boston.

I think it's worth posting about this redemption opportunity one more time for a few reasons:

Non-Conformity and Adventure in Europe: The “Alive in Berlin” Conference

Last year I spoke at a number of worldwide events, but only one was in Europe. The organizers are bringing it back for another round, and a limited number of tickets are now available. I like events of this size: not too small, and not too big. If you're in the neighborhood, broadly speaking, or if you're up for an overseas adventure, it’s a great opportunity to connect with like-minded people and learn more personal development.

Delta Adds 2 Airlines to Online Award Booking, Will Bring Back Virgin Australia

Delta added an online award calendar back in November (and then of course used it as a fig leaf for the elimination of award charts). Since then they’ve been adding various airline partners to their online booking functionality like China Southern and China Eastern and Aerolineas Argentinas and Garuda Indonesia as well as China Airlines […]

Amex Business Platinum Losing 20% Pay With Points Rebate

The family of American Express Platinum cards has been under duress lately. Not only have they lost many of their lounge access benefits – including access to both American Admirals Clubs and US Airways Clubs, but also more limited access to Delta SkyClubs. On the plus side, the Platinum cards have added unlimited complimentary access...

How to Maximize Point Redemptions for Tours and Activities

Covering your airfare and hotel with points is obviously a huge cash saver. But what about all of those expenses you incur once you get to your destination? Review: Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt Airport

My family is from Frankfurt, so I'm quite familiar with the area, and seem to have quite a few overnights there. Back in the day I'd just spend those overnights with family, though they all live a bit further from the airport now than in the past. So now I just stay at hotels.

My go to hotel for quick overnights is usually the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport. The location of the hotel can't be beat (it's literally a minute walk from the terminal), the club rooms are renovated, and the club lounge has one of the best spreads of any Sheraton I've stayed at.

That being said, I'm always looking to try out new hotels. In the past I gave the Hilton Frankfurt Airport a try, back when it was brand new. While it was a nice enough hotel, it wasn't as conveniently located as the Sheraton, and the club lounge didn't have as good of a spread either.

How to Book Cheap Cathay and Emirates Business Class Awards

I don’t often recommend buying airline miles because frequent flyer programs often charge around 3-3.5 cents per mile, a value that can be hard to recoup on most awards. However, Alaska Airlines is currently offering a promotion now through April 3 where you can get up to a 40% bonus on purchased miles that might...
