The Airline Industry’s Lobbyist Says Mileage Programs Should Be Able to Change Their Terms on a Whim. He’s Wrong.

The airline industry's lawyers and lobbyists continue to push the envelope for rights to utterly disregard their members. Some programs are worse than others in terms of their actual behavior, but here the industry as a whole contends there are no restraints at all on changes to mileage programs that might occur -- no need for advance notice to members at all.

That is an untenable position, and it needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

20% Off Marriott Gift Cards With Daily Getaways

As I first posted about several weeks ago, Daily Getaways is back earlier than normal this year, and is a great opportunity to purchase hotel points and travel packages at a discount. It’s sponsored by the US Travel Association, and every weekday for five weeks they’re offering discounted travel packages.

So far we've seen many promotions from some of the major hotel chains, though so far they've been focused primarily on opportunities to buy hotel points and hotel stay packages. Today we're seeing an opportunity to purchase hotel gift cards at a discount.

Today at 1PM you'll have the opportunity to purchase Marriott gift cards for 20% off.

May the force be with awesome new 'Star Wars' plane

Japanese carrier ANA has just launched a five-year "Star Wars Project" that includes a new 787-9 Dreamliner painted with an R2-D2 livery.

This Is AWESOME: ANA’s Star Wars 787

You've gotta love when an airline comes up with a creative livery thanks to a partnership they have.

For example, I've long been a fan of EVA Air's Hello Kitty flights, and have gone out of my way to fly them from Tokyo Narita to Taipei and from Taipei to Los Angeles.

And AirAsia's Taylor Swift plane almost makes me want to endure their non-existent seat pitch.

But I think ANA may have just announced the Coolest. Livery. EVER. For the next five years, ANA will have a Star Wars themed, R2-D2 787. Unfortunately unlike EVA Air's Hello Kitty flight, it will just be the plane's livery which is themed -- service will be as normal (for that matter, I'm not sure I'd want R2-D2 themed service -- I'll take food over batteries, thanks very much).

Review: KLM Crown Lounge Amsterdam (Schengen-side)

Once we deplaned at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport in the E Gates, we exited through a very efficient passport control and headed toward our connecting gate to Madrid, which were in the C Gates. Schiphol has two KLM Crown Lounges, one of them, the "Schengen Lounge," located between the C and D Gates (where most of the Schengen Area flights depart), and the other, which Ben reviewed last year, located between the E, F and G Gates near the non-Schengen departures. Since our flight was departing closest to the Schengen lounge, we headed there.
