North American National Park #33: Yoho, British Columbia

Yoho is just over the border from Banff National Park and borders Kootenay National Park on the south. It is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain National Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site. I’ve always wondered why the 4 adjoining national parks in the Canadian Rockies weren’t just one big park, or at least 2 parks [...]

The Surprising New Trend of Active, Nomadic Retirement

The nomadic way of life is not just for the young. Or to be precise, it’s for the young of all ages. For years I’ve been meeting retired folks who are embracing a more active lifestyle than their parents’ generation may have done. I also often receive emails from people in this demographic, along with…

Weekly Review: August 30, 2014

As I mentioned earlier, I'm going to try posting a weekly recap with all the blog posts from the week prior. I typically publish 50+ posts a week, which I realize is a lot to keep up with, so hopefully this is a good way to consolidate everything.

My thought was to highlight a couple of the stories I thought were most interesting, then I've broken everything else out into categories.

We'll see how it goes, and I'd love any feedback on the format. Without further ado:

Mystery Solved: What’s That You’re Eating, and What’s That Plane Doing There?!

To complement Ben’s Chili Bowl at National airport we have Five Guys re-opened on the fa US Airways upper gates pier. I genuinely don’t understand the closure for the better part of the last year, the re-model looks… just like it did before. The real mystery, though, that took me several minutes to figure out […]

Westin Diplomat Leaving Starwood October 30, 2014

One of Starwood's great South Florida hotel options has long been the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa, located in Hollywood, Florida. With nearly 1,000 rooms it's a massive hotel, and the great thing is that they have a ton of suites, which means that historically Platinum suite upgrades were plentiful.

It's not the most luxurious hotel in the world -- certainly not in the same league as the St. Regis Bal Harbour located down the road -- but the prices are usually reasonable and it's on a nice stretch of beach.

Jet Airways A330 Business Class

Good morning from Brussels! As I outlined yesterday, I just flew from Toronto to Brussels on Jet Airways in business class. While Jet Airways isn’t in oneworld, they are an AAdvantage partner airline, so you can redeem American miles for travel on Jet Airways.

Jet Airways is known to be one of the better airlines in India, and back in the day was the only airline to serve Dom Perignon in business class. Unfortunately they’ve gone through some serious financial woes over the past few years, and based on what I had heard, service reflected that.

Here Are The Worst Airports in the US. Is Yours One of Them?

Vice President Joe Biden thinks New York LaGuardia is a national embarrassment. It’s home to a new American Express Centurion lounge. Terminal C is much-improved, and the new US Airways club there is no longer the worst airline lounge in North America. The Marine Air Terminal, home to Delta’s Shuttle to DC, is super easy […]

North American National Park #32: Nahanni, Northwest Territories

Occasionally I visit places which are amazing, yet no one seems to know about. Places like Oman and South Georgia Island. I like to champion those places to get people more aware of them. I have another one to add to the list: Nahanni National Park. I discussed some of the significance of Nahanni in [...]

Booking Star Alliance Awards Using Amex Points And No Fuel Surcharges With Aeroplan

Aeroplan is an American Express transfer partner. Points transfer instantly in my experience over the years. The Aeroplan program is great for booking awards on Star Alliance partners. Nearer Europe is just 45,000 miles each way in business class. But not all partners are created equal when using Aeroplan to book awards — because three […]

New Blog Features Coming!

Don't worry, these are hopefully actual "features," and not a "feature" in the same way as the broken Delta SkyMiles award calendar. ;)

Last weekend I asked you guys for feedback regarding possibly adding contributors to the blog. I love what I do more than I can put into words, and have no plans to change anything anytime soon.

At the same time, I never take a day off and feel like I can't ever disconnect. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel like I need a day off because my "job" is doing what I love, but I'm also trying to plan long term.

Y'all provided a ton of amazing feedback regarding the possibility of adding contributors. The overall theme was "don't outsource the blog, we read it for you."

And that's incredibly humbling and kind, and I can't express how grateful I am for the kind words.

Frankly it amazes me that anyone reads this blog, let alone reads it to hear what I have to say. That's why I'm always caught a bit off guard when I'm recognized by a reader at an airport or hotel. I'm thrilled to meet them, but it's surreal to me that people actually read what I write and know so much about my life, given that I kind of just write the blog as if I'm talking to myself (this paragraph is no exception). ;)
