$49 Silvercar Rentals For All Of April

I've written extensively about Silvercar, which is a fairly new rental car company with only one type of car in their fleet, the Audi A4. Each A4 is equipped with free GPS, wifi, and satellite radio, and Silvercar has a fair fuel plan, whereby they'll fill up your tank for the "market price" plus a $5 refueling fee.

Silvercar has offered a ton of promos, both in terms of discounted rentals as well as referrals for making your first rental.

They've just announced a promotion for the month of April. If you use promotion code SILVER49 at the time of booking, you can rent a Silvercar in any market for $49 per day plus taxes/fees through April 30, 2015.

To Madrid And Back On SkyTeam: Introduction

As you may recall, back in early September Ben posted about some amazing business class fares between select West Coast cities and Europe. SkyTeam was targeting oneworld hubs, and vice versa. I leapt at the opportunity to buy a round-trip business class fare to Madrid for under $2,000. (Of course, just a month later those same fares fell to a sub-$1,500 level, which was even harder to resist... so I've got another trip to London planned thanks to that fare sale.) I'd never been to Madrid before, and figured it would make an ideal city for a short four-day getaway, and would allow me to try out a range of new SkyTeam products there and back.

While you may know me as a SkyTeam apologist, I should be upfront and let you know the booking situation from start to finish was a giant pain in the ass, because I made the mistake of booking through KLM.com (having heard it offered a $20 "time to think" option to hold a reservation for up to two weeks at the quoted price). Air France's website offers the same option, which I wish I'd known at the time because, ladies and gents...

A Star Alliance Upstart Just Called Out Both United and Delta — and Could Save Us All

Copa wouldn’t seem like the most important airline to most US-based frequent flyers. But they’re a lot more important than you think, in several ways. Copa used to be majority-owned by Continental Airlines, and Copa took on a variant of the Continental logo and joined the old Onepass frequent flyer program. Continental started selling their investment in 2005, and the airline is independent now, but they’re pretty well integrated with United. Even now that they’re launching their own frequent flyer program there’s reciprocal upgrade benefits between the two airlines. And of course Copa is a member of the Star Alliance. Their brand new frequent flyer program which is about to launch is making a statement — and they’re calling out United and Delta while they do it. They’ve just e-mailed out this missive: Russ Hinckley…

My One Year Anniversary Of Living In Hotels Full Time

April 14, 2014.

That’s the day I became "voluntarily homeless," and decided to move into hotels full time. When I first started this crazy experiment I said I’d try it for a year and then reevaluate.

Well, it has now been a year, and I don’t see things changing anytime soon.

The past year has been incredible. Partly thanks to living in hotels full time, and partly due to life in general just being good.

-- Purchase Hilton HHonors points for ~0.5 cents each

-- Purchase Best Western Rewards points for ~0.55 cents each

Amazing Deal: Free $20 Amazon Spend With Amex Offers

Amex Offers is a great way to get additional value out of your American Express cards. If you log into your online account and scroll to the bottom of your card summary you'll see a section titled "Amex Offers For You."

There are often dozens of offers available at a time, though not everyone is going to find all of them useful. But then there are some no brainers. For example, last November Amex paid $150 of my AT&T bill thanks to an Amex Offers promotion.

There's now an Amex Offers promotion which is possibly the most widely useful one ever -- you can receive $20 back when you spend $20 or more through Amazon by June 6, 2015. That's right, that's basically like $20 of "free" spend at Amazon.
