How to Make Money Booking Award Tickets for People

Does This Look To You Like A “Hard Landing?”

In terms of what’s quite possibly the most pathetic cover up I’ve seen for a plane “accident,” an Air Canada Airbus A320 crash landed in Halifax last night. Photo courtesy TSB Canada First and foremost, thank goodness that nobody seems to be critically injured. While some people went to the hospital, all but one have…

How American’s Account Merging With US Airways Helps With Lifetime Elite Status

My US Airways miles have been combined into my American AAdvantage account. They started with Dividend Miles members who did not have an AAdvantage account Then transitioned members who had matched their AAdvantage and Dividend Miles accounts. They continue with those who may have had accounts in both programs but didn’t link their accounts. The […]

The US Airways MasterCard Isn’t (Quite) Dead Yet

With the integration of the AAdvantage and Dividend Miles programs this weekend, one thing that's disappearing is the US Airways MasterCard. The plan was:

-- Once the frequent flyer programs are integrated, no new applications will be accepted for the US Airways MasterCard

-- Existing US Airways MasterCard members will have their cards converted into the Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator Cards; so while Barclaycard isn't allowed to accept new members for the card, they can continue to service existing members with the product

As a reminder, here are the four products that existing members will be converted to:

Virgin Australia Awards Using Delta SkyMiles Are Back

Earlier in the week I reported how Delta SkyMiles didn't have access to Virgin Australia award space. This seemed to be an issue regardless of whether you tried to book online or by phone. That was pretty unfortunate, given that Virgin Australia is the airline which releases the most premium cabin saver level award space between the US and Australia, making it one of the best uses of SkyMiles.

The good news is that this was apparently due to an IT glitch, and Virgin Australia awards using SkyMiles were supposed to return this weekend.

And they have indeed -- Virgin Australia awards are now once again bookable on delta.com.

Are Upgrades Easier On American Or US Airways?

As I wrote about earlier, the integration between AAdvantage & Dividend Miles is happening this weekend. When it comes to the merger, this is the thing I was most looking forward to, as sad as I am to see Dividend Miles disappear.

What am I most excited about? Truly reciprocal upgrades on US Airways. Up until now Dividend Miles members could only get day of departure upgrades on American, and AAdvantage members could only get day of departure upgrades on US Airways.

Now the two airlines have modified their upgrade systems and are offering truly reciprocal upgrades, given that everyone is now "just" an AAdvantage member.

As a reminder, here's how the new complimentary upgrade system works:
