United Guts Partner Miles Earning and Looks at FAA Fines, Virgin Feeds Passengers McDonalds, and American’s CEO Speaks Too Much Truth
News and notes from around the interweb: United already destroyed its frequent flyer program as a means of rewarding actually flying on United. Now, as if there was any doubt this would happen, they have updated its charts showing the points you’ll earn for flying on its partners. And it isn’t pretty. In general you […]

The False Narrative of Rewarding Expensive Fare Customers
In offering commentary on the major changes coming to the British Airways program, Lucky concludes, This change is pretty in line with what I expect from airlines in 2015: British Airways is being less rewarding to those on lower fares British Airways is being more rewarding to those on expensive fares “British Airways is being […]

Should You Transfer Amex Points To British Airways With 40% Bonus?
As I first wrote about in mid-December, the US American Express Membership Rewards program is offering a 40% bonus on transfers to British Airways Executive Club through January 31, 2015.
Since this promotion expires in a few days, I had actually written a post last night about whether I thought it made sense to speculatively transfer points, which I originally scheduled for this morning.
Of course that all kind of changed this morning when British Airways Executive Club announced a pretty substantial award chart devaluation for bookings made as of April 28, 2015.

My Mom And Me Are Presently On A Flight To…!
Let me start by saying that the purpose of this trip isn't necessarily to write a great review. In other words, I'm not taking my mom to the Park Hyatt Jeddah on Saudia, and connecting on Kuwait Airways to Bandar Seri Begawan, so I can take the Royal Brunei 787.
Instead, the goal of this trip is to make my mom smile.
For some quick background, I was actually supposed to fly to Australia via Europe and the Middle East today, and was going to spend three weeks in Australia.
Then last week I started having second thoughts about the trip, as I was a bit burned out with travel after an absolutely crazy flying schedule for a couple of months. And I was enjoying spending time with my parents, and didn't want to leave them for a long time.

Best Trip Ever: Dad’s Thoughts
As I explained from the beginning, for me the most exciting part of the trip was seeing my dad's excitement. And while I've taken many trips with my dad, planning a complete surprise trip was a new one even for me.
I can't say enough how much I enjoyed seeing his reactions every step of the way as he learned where we'd be going next, and I can't recommend it enough... assuming you're traveling with the type of person that likes surprises and is up for anything.
My dad had originally started writing a million word trip report, but after the feedback from his videos, I figured him sharing his final trip thoughts on video would be even better.

Here’s Why Starwood Changed Their Terms to Distinguish Base and Bonus Points…
I noted several changes to Starwood Preferred Guest terms and conditions yesterday in addition to the change to make Platinum 50 night member Suite Night Awards an option (introducing other choices that a Platinum could pick instead if they prefer). One of those changes was to distinguish between base and bonus points earned by elite […]

1,000 Free Points For Joining Hilton HHonors
For the two of you reading this that aren't yet members of Hilton HHonors... ;)
Hilton HHonors is running a promotion in conjunction with EVA Air whereby you can earn triple EVA Air Infinity MileageLands miles for your Hilton stays. That promotion as such interests me about as much as C-SPAN.
However, another part of the promotion is that Hilton is offering new members that register through the promotion link 1,000 HHonors points for joining. The promotion is valid through March 31, 2015.
