Flying an American Airlines Inaugural: the Speeches Were Cancelled, But the Breakfast Tacos Free Flowing
My grandmother hasn’t been well. Her condition hasn’t been great since my grandfather passed about 18 months ago, but in recent weeks it’s taken a serious turn for the worse. I’ve been out to see her a few times. She’s been in a rehab center, and just over a week ago went into the hospital. […]

Alaska Offering Up To Triple Miles For Travel On Emirates
Over the past couple of years one of my favorite airline partnerships has been between Alaska and Emirates. While the partnership began in 2012, reciprocal mileage redemption only began in early 2013.
Suffice to say this presented an awesome value, given that Alaska allows stopovers on one-way awards, and has very reasonable redemption rates for Emirates. I recently redeemed 100,000 miles to fly with my dad from Los Angeles to Dubai in Emirates A380 first class, connecting from Dubai to Singapore in Emirates A380 first class.
Anyway, Alaska Mileage Plan now has a pretty lucrative promotion for travel on Emirates, whereby they're offering both bonus miles and discounts for travel on Emirates. This is very similar to the promotion they offered last year.

Delta Backing Off its 3 Week Advance Purchase Requirement for Saver Awards
At the beginning of February Delta appeared to impose a three week advance purchase requirement in order to redeem awards at the saver level. Domestic economy class awards at 12,500 miles one-way simply didn’t exist on most routes for travel within 21 days. When you’d find space at this price, it was usually on partner […]

Review: American Airlines Flagship Lounge New York JFK Airport
We arrived at Terminal 8 at around 8:30AM for our 10AM flight to Los Angeles.
American's terminal at JFK is one of the nicer ones, which isn't really saying a whole lot.
We headed over to Flagship check-in, which is located at the far right of the terminal. Flagship check-in is for three cabin first class passengers (so those traveling to LAX or SFO in first class, as well as those traveling in international first class) and Concierge Key members.
We had already checked in online so didn't need boarding passes, but usually you can cut the security line when you use Flagship check-in. Physically this is one of the most beautiful Flagship check-in facilities that American has, though it's not the most practical.

What is Fuel Dumping? Could American Buy Alaska? And LAX is About to Have a Very Bad Day.
News and notes from around the interweb: What is fuel dumping? American is permitting voluntary changes and ticket refunds for Venezuela travel as a result of that country imposing new Visa requirements on American citizens. Would American Airlines buy Alaska? Historically the price for the Seattle-based airline has always been too high. And the DOJ […]

Weekly Review: March 7, 2015
Hello from San Diego! I'm here in sunny California for Frequent Traveler University (if you're missing this one, you can still buy tickets for the Dallas event in April).
This has been a very easy and decidedly unglamorous travel week for me -- I've had one Alaska 737 flight and an Amtrak ride -- though I'm fortunate to have missed out on the winter storms in the Northeast, at least!

What Makes a Domestic Airline Lounge Special?
There are some really special, amazing airport lounges in the world — places that are more ‘top end private club’ than ‘somewhat more quiet waiting room’.

Delta’s First Story Didn’t Work. Their New Line Isn’t Any Better. Don’t Be Fooled.
When Delta removed all the award charts from their website without any notice (indeed, just weeks after they went into effect and less than 3 months since some were even posted), their initial story was that they had improved website award search enough that they were no longer needed. [W]e did remove Award charts today. […]
