My Beef With American’s New Catering

American and US Airways aligned their domestic first class catering as of September 1, 2014.

I don't usually take much of an interest in domestic airplane food, though I did share my first experience with the new catering over the weekend, which was underwhelming. The "salad" consisted mostly of shredded lettuce, and the chicken was possibly the worst chicken I've ever had in a premium cabin.

Today I had a lunch flight from San Francisco to Dallas, which is under three hours in the air.

North American National Park #42: Badlands, South Dakota

Technically, Badlands National Park was the first national park I ever visited. My family visited here on a road trip in the late 70’s. I’ve visited several times since then and it never ceases to amaze me. What makes Badlands special is its colorful landscape. The erosional features of the park are actually the remains [...]

American’s first 787 is in final assembly. According to AirlinePilotForums, the first delivery is scheduled for November 28. This one is rumored to begin flying New York JFK – Los Angeles for a month after delivery (presumably before it starts flying […]

United is Lying to You, In Their Own Words

There is a very important lesson, that’s easy to forget sometimes. Your frequent flyer program is lying to you (although some lie more than others). There’s no purity here, so the offenses are all relative and need to be kept in perspective. Still, United coming right out and saying that they don’t keep their promises […]

My Flight Made The News… Sorta!

Yesterday I wrote in passing about my flight delay from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, as a result of my inbound aircraft being delayed by about five hours.

Reader PST Andy commented on the post with a link to an ABC7 Los Angeles article about a delayed flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

I'm not sure whether I'm more amused by the fact that this was the inbound of my flight, or the fact that this is quite possibly the least interesting airline delay story I've ever read:

Review: The Club At LAS Airport

After a visit to The American Express Centurion Lounge at Las Vegas Airport, I couldn't help but quickly drop into the Priority Pass lounge located across the concourse.

It's called The Club at Las Vegas Airport, and is located in Terminal 1, Concourse D. This is part of The Club network of independent lounges -- they have five lounges around the country, in Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and San Jose.

Much like with The Centurion Lounge, you first have to clear security and take the train to the D Concourse.

Review: AmEx Centurion Lounge Las Vegas Airport

American Express is doing something really innovative by opening up their own lounges at airports which their cardmembers frequent most. The footprint is small, but the lounges they do have blow the ones run by airlines out of the water.

American Express has started opening up more of their own airport lounges in part because quite a bit of value has been lost in terms of the lounge privileges of the American Express Platinum Card. The card used to get you access to American Admirals Clubs and US Airways Clubs, though that was discontinued in March. Furthermore, guesting privileges have been reduced at Delta SkyClubs as of May.

Amex has three lounges in the US so far:

-- The Centurion Lounge Las Vegas Airport

-- The Centurion Lounge Dallas DFW Airport

-- The Centurion Lounge New York LGA Airport

Beyond those lounges, Amex will be opening two more lounges in Miami and San Francisco over the coming year.

Flight Delay Reasons That Make You Shake Your Head

I'm not having the "luckiest" couple of travel weeks. In the past 10 days I've collectively had 16 hours of flight delays (first a four hour delay before a Philadelphia to Toronto flight, then a two hour delay before an Abu Dhabi to New York flight, then a four hour delay before a Chicago to Las Vegas flight, and now finally a four hour delay before a Las Vegas to Los Angeles flight).

In the past 10 days I've collectively experienced more delays than in the previous two years combined.

Last night I was trying to standby for an earlier flight from Las Vegas to Los Angeles (actually a later flight, but it was less delayed than my earlier flight).
