Cathay Pacific Will Introduce a New Business Class Seat Next Year

Cathay Pacific is an American AAdvantage partner (and a member of oneworld) and flies from New York JFK, Newark, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver to Hong Kong and of course beyond. I love their first class product, and redeem for it when I can. But their business class is excellent. It’s a […]

Review: Lufthansa Senator Lounge Detroit Metro Airport

I was recently in Michigan to see some relatives. This gave me the opportunity to visit the Lufthansa Senator lounge at the Detroit Metro airport, one of my favorite lounges in the US.

The Lufthansa lounge is located in Metro’s North Terminal, which is home to Lufthansa and just about every airline not named Delta. The North Terminal replaced the decrepit Smith Terminal several years ago, and is actually quite nice. It is completely detached from Delta’s McNamara fortress Terminal, and this is often a good thing. With about 28 gates, the Smith Terminal has the feel of a small regional airport -- easy in, easy out. Even the car rental shuttles treat it as its own entity – you have to watch which bus you board after returning a car because some are bound for McNamara while others are going to North. Heck, you can even take different freeways depending on whether you are flying Delta or not!

The Lufthansa Senator lounge opened a few years ago and is intended primarily to serve the once daily Detroit – Frankfurt flight. The flight in itself is a bit of an anomaly since there is presumably little connecting feed (doing a Smith to McNamara shuffle seems like a huge pain). But perhaps contrary to popular belief, the auto industry is still chugging along in Michigan and the executives are still largely there so apparently there is sufficient demand for this flight.

I Heart My City: Diana’s Geneva

Diana Orduna began her love affair with Geneva—a place she describes as "a huge melting pot of cultures, people, and international organizations"—three years ago. Soon after relocating from Mexico to the capital of Switzerland's Romandy, or French-speaking, region, she started sharing her discoveries with the world on Spotted by Locals and on her own blog, LivinGeneva. Visiting the Hidden Speakeasy in Downtown Sydney, Australia

Searching for a great cocktail in Australia is a quest of its own. For most Australians, a cocktail means "gin and tonic" or "margarita"—they have great wines in this part of the world, but legit mixed drinks are hard to come by. That just means you have to look harder, of course. I found a modern-day speakeasy hidden away in the Central Business District of Sydney. Finding the general area wasn’t difficult, but there was a trick to finding the speakeasy itself: you had to avoid an imposter bar located right outside. The imposter bar looked fine—just a normal pub with the typical overpriced drinks of Sydney.

The 5 Most Amazing Airbus A380 Amenities!

I'm a huge fan of the Airbus A380. While it might not be the prettiest plane in the world from the outside, there's no denying that it has had a huge impact on commercial aviation. Not only has it allowed airlines to add capacity on routes which are otherwise slot restricted, but it has also given airlines room to be creative with amenities, given that they have more room to work with.

I've been lucky enough to fly A380 first class on every airline which presently operates the whale-jet.

I figured I'd share what I consider to be the five coolest A380 amenities. If you follow the industry closely you're probably already quite familiar with all of these. That being said, a lot of my non-aviation friends don't get why I'm so obsessed with collecting miles & points, so this might be a fun way to show them what they're missing out on. ;)

Review: American Airlines Admirals Club Honolulu Airport

While the flights to/from Honolulu were utterly unremarkable/boring/had the most apathetic flight attendants I've ever had, I figured I'd review the Admirals Club in Honolulu.

The Admirals Club Honolulu is especially interesting because it's not exclusively an Admirals Club. It's actually a shared facility between American Airlines and Japan Airlines. So it's not that one airline runs it and the other airline uses it, but instead there are elements of both airlines incorporated into the lounge.

Honolulu Airport, while well past its prime, has to be one of the cutest airports ever. It's largely open air with great tarmac views, Japanese gardens, etc. I mean, hell, the TSA is even friendly.

SriLankan’s New Business Class Seat

SriLankan Airlines joined the oneworld alliance a little under a year ago, which was an exciting development. I've flown SriLankan several times before they joined the oneworld alliance, and really enjoyed my flights on them.

While they don't have the best product in the world, there's something really exotic about them, which makes them a fun airline to fly.

Anyway, I'm soon headed to the Maldives, and while I have my return flight figured out, I'm still working on my outbound flight. I'm thinking of partly flying SriLankan to get there, given that awards are much cheaper through American AAdvantage when booking to Colombo than Male (since the former is in "Asia 2," while the latter is in the "Middle East").
