Wyndham New Program Starts May 11: Drops Price of Award Nights By As Much As 70%
It seems like hotel programs have been incentivizing booking low end hotels — keeping those cheap, making the points cost even cheaper than before — while pricing top end awards astronomically. We’ve seen massive ‘category creep’ at Marriott. Two years ago Hilton increased the price of their top awards as much as 90%. Hyatt created […]

Up To 60% Bonus On Purchased American AAdvantage Miles
Only days after the AAdvantage & Dividend Miles programs merged, American is back with a great bonus on buying miles.
Through April 30, 2015, American AAdvantage is offering up to 60,000 AAdvantage bonus miles when you buy miles.
The size of your mileage bonus varies based on how many miles you buy, and maxes out at 60%. The tiers are as follows:

Air France FlyingBlue June/July Promo Awards — Up To 50% Off
One of the best uses of Air France/KLM FlyingBlue miles is booking their Promo Awards. FlyingBlue publishes these every month, and they offer 25-50% off select award tickets on Air France and KLM metal. Back in the day Promo Awards would consistently be for 50% off and would have a good number of options in business class, though unfortunately they’ve devalued the program somewhat since then, and the discounts now vary.
However, there are still some great values to be had. FlyingBlue just published their latest Promo Awards. These are valid for bookings made between April 1 and April 30, 2015, and for travel between June 1 and July 31, 2015. This set of Promo Awards is pretty average, I'd say. For a bit of context, check out the other recent Promo Awards:

New Safety Concerns: Should You Fly Thailand’s Airlines?
The International Civil Aviation Organization has “significant safety concerns” about Thailand’s aviation regulator‘s standards (not about Thailand’s airlines). ICAO, a UN agency, informed governments around the world about its designation of Thailand as a “significant safety concern” on March 20. ICAO’s designation came after it determined that the “corrective action plan” submitted by the Department […]

DISGUSTING: NYPD Officer Loses It On Uber Driver
There's a cringe-worthy video making the rounds of an undercover NYPD officer verbally assaulting an UberX driver in New York City (this video contains strong language, so is not suitable for work). The video was taken and uploaded by the passenger -- here's the description:
"Police abuse of Uber driver in New York City. In an unmarked car, the policeman was allegedly attempting to park without using his blinker at a green light. (His reverse lights weren't on. Likely double parked without hazards on.) The Uber driver pulled around and gestured that he should use his blinker, casually and non-offensively, and kept driving us. The policeman aggressively pulls up behind us and this is what happens.
(This occurred just before 2pm on the West side of Manhattan, in police precinct 6, on March 30th, 2015. The officer did not identify himself, but he had a New York license plate: GSS 8891)"

Are Thailand’s Airlines Unsafe?
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recently completed an audit of Thailand's Civil Aviation Authority, during which they found some troubling policies.
Via Reuters:
"One aviation source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters that significant safety concerns had been uncovered during an audit of Thailand's civil aviation authority by the Montréal-based International Civil Aviation Organization.
The source said the ICAO's concerns revolved around the issue of operator certificates to carriers by the Thai authority. While the ICAO cannot "downgrade" states, its audits identify concerns that could lead countries to take steps such as banning flights."

Apparently You Can Earn Bonus Miles For Dining — Who Knew?!
I'll be the first to admit I'm not as "hardcore" in this hobby as I used to be. That's partly because I have more going on in my life now than when I was 16.
Back in the day I would go out of my way to earn bonus miles for virtually every purchase. $5 online purchase? I would spend 15 minutes trying to decide which shopping portal to go through. Over time I've kind of included the value of time in deciding whether or not to take advantage of various opportunities to generate miles.
As many of you probably know, most of the major airlines offer bonus miles for dining at select restaurants through Rewards Network.
Basically you register your credit card, and then for dining at select restaurants you earn 3-5 bonus miles per dollar spent (and sometimes there are promotions on top of that).

IHG Rewards Club Credit Card 70K Sign-Up Bonus Extended Through May 31, 2015
In early March I wrote about the 70,000 point sign-up bonus on the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card, which was only supposed to be available through March 31, 2015. Well, it's worth noting that this sign-up bonus has now been extended through May 31, 2015.
The card offers a 70,000 point sign-up bonus after spending $1,000 within three months of account opening, provided you haven’t received the bonus in the past 24 months. The annual fee on the card is $49, though it’s waived the first year.
As a reminder, this is one of the most compelling hotel credit cards out there. While I don't value it that much for everyday spend, it's a card I'm holding onto long term. Why?

Review: Cathay Pacific Business Class A330 Hong Kong To Jakarta
My flight was departing from Hong Kong at 4:05PM, so I got to the airport at 2:45PM. I was already issued my boarding pass in Chicago a couple of days prior, so proceeded directly to immigration and security, which took about 15 minutes.
I briefly stopped by Cathay Pacific's First Class "The Wing" Lounge, which I had access to thanks to my oneworld Emerald status. I had a couple of glasses of champagne, and then at around 3:30PM headed to my departure gate.
My flight was departing from the far end of the concourse, so by the time I got to the gate at around 3:45PM they were on final boarding call, and I was among the last people aboard.
I was curious to try Cathay Pacific's new regional business class. I've flown their old regional business class many times, which basically consists of rather tired but comfortable recliner seats, which are marginally more comfortable than domestic first class within the US.
