First Look At Qatar Airways A380!
As I hinted at a bit over a week ago, last Friday I flew from Doha to London Heathrow on the Qatar Airways A380 inaugural flight. Out of the millions of miles I’ve flown, I don’t think I’ve ever chased a flight as much as this one. That’s because Qatar Airways had a roughly four…

Is Lufthansa Dealing With An Identity Crisis?
While the US legacy carriers have been doing as well as ever lately, the same can't be said about major carriers in some other regions. That's especially true in Europe and Australia, where some of the dominant carriers have unsustainable cost structures while being faced with competition from low cost carriers.
In a way, it's not that different than when Uber begins service in a new market. The taxi mafias haven't done anything to innovate in decades due to lack of competition, and then find themselves totally unprepared to compete when they no longer have a monopoly.
It's no secret that I love Lufthansa, though I can't help but feel like they're having a bit of an identity crisis. It's understandable that the major carriers in Europe sort of have to try to be all things to all people, at least to some degree:

Check Out This Concert in the Sky! And This Filing Calling Out Delta…
News and notes from around the interweb: Not new, but @gschaer shares this Avianca concert in the sky that’s worth a view. You think that I give Delta a hard time? American’s filing seeking Delta’s near-dormant Tokyo-Haneda slot does me one better. A flight attendants union wants to force the federal government to reinstate the […]

What You Need To Do Before The Southwest And AirTran Integration
Southwest and AirTran are in the final phases of combining their systems, and the loyalty programs will be fully combined beginning November 2, 2014.
This means AirTran's A+ Rewards Accounts will will cease to exist on that date. Southwest Rapid Rewards will be the loyalty program of the combined carrier, so all accounts will be converted beginning on the 2nd.
To prepare for the integration, there are a few "housekeeping" things you'll want to do:
-- Make sure your account details on both your AirTran and Southwest accounts are current (and match) before October 15th
--Move Points/Credits between the two programs if needed before November 1st

New Ultimate Rewards Site
There have been several updates to the Chase Ultimate Rewards program over the few months, one of which is to the user interface for the Ultimate Rewards website.
The new site is supposed to be cleaner and more accessible for mobile and tablets, and those with the Chase Sapphire Preferred will see the new skin when they log in to that account.
I know exactly nothing about web design, so won't speak to whether or not this is pretty, but these updates do at least seem useful.

11 Tips to Help You Visit Expensive Iceland on Budget
Iceland. The land of sheep, northern lights, volcanoes with unpronounceable names (try Eyjafjallajökull), and high prices. It’s supposedly one of the least budget-friendly countries in the world – which made visiting even more appealing to me. I always view expensive countries as a challenge. Figuring out how to visit a country on the cheap is like solving a puzzle to me and I relished the challenge of figuring out if Iceland could be visited on a budget. And, after eleven […]

Is Hilton HHonors Ripe for Another Devaluation?
Several years ago Hilton told us that they thought their program was too valuable, that it didn’t get them anything to be that way, and it’s far better to keep customers on a treadmill having to earn more points. This by the way was still during the Great Recession. So it should come as no […]
