Landing in Antarctica

Crazy Vehicles in Antarctica I’ve never seen so many different kinds of vehicles. One day I went over to explore the US base — it was really impressive how many types and styles of vehicles were there. I took a ton of photos (naturally)… I need to process them! Daily Photo – Landing in Antarctica […]

Man Hospitalized in Freak Airport Toilet Accident

How To Redeem 100,000 Miles For Four Showers

I've been fortunate enough to fly just about all of the world's most amazing first class products, from ANA to Asiana to Cathay Pacific to Emirates to Etihad to Japan Airlines to Lufthansa to Qatar Airways to Singapore Airlines.

Though in all my travels, I don't think I've ever been as excited as the first time I took a shower in Emirates A380 first class. Flying as such is a miracle. The fact that there are flat beds, wifi, and even onboard bars still, to this day, leaves me speechless.

But showers on a plane... really?!?

If you haven't yet had the privilege of showering on a plane, I've written a guide to the Emirates A380 shower suite, which gives a rundown of how it works and what the experience is like.

So, How Bad Was Southwest’s Recent Devaluation?

In February, Southwest announced that they’d be making some changes to the Rewards Rewards frequent flyer program as of April 17, 2015.

Historically Rapid Rewards has been a pretty transparent revenue based frequent flyer program, whereby the cost of an award ticket is directly correlated to the cost of a revenue ticket. That hasn’t stopped Southwest from making devaluations, though.

For example, last April Rapid Rewards devalued their redemption rates. For Rapid Rewards tickets, they went from charging 60 points per dollar of airfare to charging 70 points per dollar of airfare.

However, as of this past Friday, Southwest made award ticket pricing even more dynamic. Here’s how Southwest described the changes:

Can You Convert Citi Executive Card Into Citi Prestige Card?

One of the hottest credit cards at the moment is the Citi Prestige Card, which is offering a sign-up bonus of 50,000 ThankYou Rewards points after spending $3,000 on the card within the first three months.

While the card has a $450 annual fee, it's still a great value, given that it offers:

-- A $250 annual airline credit

-- Access to American Admirals Clubs

-- A fourth night free hotel benefit

-- The most comprehensive Priority Pass membership offered by any card

-- A $100 Global Entry fee credit

-- A great points earnings structure

-- No foreign transaction fees

The timing of this offer couldn't be better, given that I was looking for a replacement for my Citi Executive AAdvantage Card. Early last year the card offered a 100,000 mile sign-up bonus, which many people jumped on. The card comes with Admirals Club access, so is super-valuable for those of us who are loyal American flyers.

Review: Air France Business Class A321 Madrid to Paris

So, you guys, if there's one lesson I can impart to you in this trip report series, it is this:

Never fly with a hangover.

Madrid is a late night city. I figured that a 12:45pm departure would still allow me to go out on a Saturday night and wake up in plenty of time to make my flight. Of course, one bottle of wine becomes two, and you add some beers to the mix, and suddenly it's 5:00am when you're tucking yourself in and you've got to get up and pack by 9:30.

Luckily, I woke up feeling tired, but otherwise fine, and made my way to the airport with plenty of time to spare. Madrid is a funny place -- it's such a late night city that at 10:30am on a Sunday the entire city is in deep slumber even though the sun is out and birds are chirping. My drive to the airport felt post-apocalyptic in that I could count the number of pedestrians I saw on one hand, but the upside is I made it to Barajas in under 15 minutes.

Is Southwest Considering Dumping their Chase Credit Card?

Southwest Airlines has hired an investment bank to help evaluate options for its co-brand credit card. Southwest Airlines is considering replacing JPMorgan Chase as the issuer of its credit card rewards program, according to two people familiar with the matter. One of those people said Southwest has hired investment bank First Annapolis as an adviser as it reviews the relationship with Chase. Who could Southwest rope into making a credible offer for their co-brand franchise? Does Citi have the juice to pick up a second Dallas-based airline, after shooting the moon on Costco? American Express can’t possibly make sense for an airline that pitches itself as discount, and of the people, even in a world where Amex co-brands with Walmart and Target. Barclaycard lost US Airways and clearly needs a prize airline. Southwest’s relationship would…
