What are the Largest Airlines – in the US and in the World?
The winner of the crown among the World’s Largest Airlines – such as it is, since it’s hardly as meaningful a metric as ‘best airline’ or ‘most profitable airline’ — is American Airlines, now that they’ve merged with US Airways. When Delta merged with Northwest it became the largest airline in the United States. Then […]

Signs You Spend Too Much Time On Planes?
In June I compiled a list of 10 signs you spend too much time in hotels, and asked you guys to pile on with your thoughts. I was working on a similar list for 10 signs that you spend too much time on planes, though I think last night I had an experience which just sums it all up in one.
I flew Frankfurt to New York in the morning on Singapore, which is as far as I know the earliest transatlantic flight out of Frankfurt (it leaves at 8:30AM). I both love and hate that, since it means you get to New York early enough to avoid rush hour, but also have a long day ahead of you for staying awake.
After a long day I changed into my (British Airways first class) jammies and hopped in bed. I then spent 30 seconds looking for the seatbelt, because I was tired and didn't want to be woken up in the middle of the night if there was turbulence.

16 quotes from young travelers

I Was Asked To Power On Electronics At Security
In early July I posted about the new TSA policy which was implemented at overseas airports, whereby powerless electronic devices wouldn't be permitted on planes.
Yesterday I experienced that -- along with "targeted" secondary security -- for the first time. It was no big deal at all, but I figured I'd share my experience, since it was a first.
I was flying from Frankfurt to New York on Singapore Airlines, and when I went to board the plane the machine that scans boarding passes beeped several times. The agent told me I needed to go to the ticket desk for a document check, though once there I was directed to the side of the gate, where two police offers told me to sit down.

Airline Imitates the Onion, Chase Eliminates a Bonus, American Allows 18 Hour Domestic Connections, and Another Airline With Pre-Order Meals
News and notes from around the interweb: I’m not a teenage girl so I’ve never brought along my own pillow when I’ve traveled. But travel pillows are definitely a thing. Are they your thing? American now allows 18 hour connections on some domestic and US-Canada itineraries for both revenue and award tickets. Two years ago […]

Best Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Seat?
Yesterday I flew Singapore Airlines A380 business class from Frankfurt to New York. While I've flown Singapore's A380 in Suites Class and have flown Singapore's 777-300ER business class (which is in theory an identical product), I was excited to finally ride on the upper deck of Singapore's A380.
Before my flight I really struggled with which seat to choose, given that everyone I asked seemed to have a different favorite. So I figured I'd chime in and share my thoughts.
First of all, Singapore has two versions of the A380:
- One version of the A380 has 60 business class seats
- The other A380 version has 86 business class seats
I was on the version with 86 seats, which meant the entire upper deck consisted exclusively of business class.
