8x Alaska Miles Per Dollar Spent At Nordstrom

There's nothing that influences my purchase decisions quite as much as miles. Sometimes they shouldn't, but it just feels better to buy stuff when there are miles at stake.

As I've written about in the past, online shopping portals are a great way to maximize miles & points, and they're especially practical since I do just about all my shopping online anyway. I should clarify that when I say "all my shopping," I mean once per year or when my mom tells me my wardrobe is no longer acceptable -- whichever comes first.

The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Shopping Portal is presently offering eight miles per dollar spent at Nordstrom. I believe the promotion is valid through the end of next week, so through September 7, 2014.

Signs you're from the TX Panhandle

You think all the other states’ flags look alike. Seriously, with the exception of New Mexico, aren’t they all blue fields with some kind of seal in the middle?

Business Class Award Availability for the Whole Family to Australia!

Back in June I wrote about finding at least four business class seats non-stop between the US and Australia almost every day. That was using Delta miles on its partner Virgin Australia. Virgin Australia awards are even bookable on the Delta website and Delta no longer adds fuel surcharges to Virgin Australia awards. Then last […]

La Compagnie Business Class Fare Sale Ending Soon

I've had my fair share of fun with La Compagnie, the new all business class start up between Paris and Newark. I flew one of their first flights from Paris to Newark, and had an interesting flight, to put it mildly.

After the flight I had the opportunity to speak with La Compagnie's Deputy CEO, who provided some interesting insight on their business plan and operations.

This is the Best Thai Food Outside of Thailand

I’ve left pieces of my heart in many places around the world: New York, Paris, Stockholm, and Hong Kong to name a few. But no place has a bigger piece than Thailand. It was my home for a long time (and in many ways still is). No amount of time there is long enough and any amount of time away is too long. Whenever I miss it, I head to a Thai restaurant, shock the staff by speaking Thai, enjoy […]

A Tale of 2 Hotels: Using Club Carlson for Radisson Blu Properties in Europe

After almost a year and a half of racking up Club Carlson Gold Points via the US Bank Club Carlson Premiere Rewards Visa Signature Credit Card, as well as a couple of Amex Daily Getaways Gold Points purchases, last month, I finally redeemed those points for stays at two Carlson Rezidor properties. Results were mixed. […]

Travel Challenge: Baseball Hall of Fame

Its been over 25 years since I’ve been. For a dedicated little leaguer or a lifelong baseball fan, a trip to Cooperstown comes before Disney World, Las Vegas or any you-name-it destination on a “must see” list. No matter which sport I enjoy currently, when it comes down to it, I’m always reminded of memories […]

Crazy for Croatia: Five Musts

Not to knock Dubrovnik, with its marble streets, 16th-century city walls, sparkling red roof tiles, and primo location—it more than earns its moniker of “Pearl of the Adriatic,” not to mention its UNESCO World Heritage status. But if you cross Croatia off your list after you’ve seen Dubrovnik, you’re missing out on a lot. Here…
