New Blog Features Coming!

Don't worry, these are hopefully actual "features," and not a "feature" in the same way as the broken Delta SkyMiles award calendar. ;)

Last weekend I asked you guys for feedback regarding possibly adding contributors to the blog. I love what I do more than I can put into words, and have no plans to change anything anytime soon.

At the same time, I never take a day off and feel like I can't ever disconnect. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel like I need a day off because my "job" is doing what I love, but I'm also trying to plan long term.

Y'all provided a ton of amazing feedback regarding the possibility of adding contributors. The overall theme was "don't outsource the blog, we read it for you."

And that's incredibly humbling and kind, and I can't express how grateful I am for the kind words.

Frankly it amazes me that anyone reads this blog, let alone reads it to hear what I have to say. That's why I'm always caught a bit off guard when I'm recognized by a reader at an airport or hotel. I'm thrilled to meet them, but it's surreal to me that people actually read what I write and know so much about my life, given that I kind of just write the blog as if I'm talking to myself (this paragraph is no exception). ;)

American Airlines fares are back on Orbitz

Do You Tip In Hotel Club Lounges?

I know, the tipping situation in the US is out of control. Blah blah blah.

I'm not disagreeing the situation is out of hand, but it doesn't change the fact that many people rely on tips to make a living, regardless of whether the system makes sense or not. In other words, as much as I might disagree with the system, I don't want to "punish" people that work in an industry that rely on tips as a result.

But even when trying to apply that standard, there are inconsistencies that leave me confused. For example, why do we tip almost anyone that serves us a meal, except flight attendants? In shuttle buses, do we only tip if the driver helps us with our bags? If so, is the simple effort of lifting a bag what justifies the tip, as opposed to the time spent driving the shuttle?

Slovenia’s Ancient Roman Holiday

In the 2,000 years since Caesar Augustus laid one of Ljubljana’s first stones, then for a settlement called Emona, this city has often hidden in plain sight. No longer: As Slovenia’s capital cheers its bimillenary throughout 2014, it’s putting its treasures on parade.

The Two Newest — and Best — Amex Points Tools

I receive compensation for many links on this blog. I do not write about all credit cards that are available — instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). Back in March I spoke with David Rabkin, American Express Senior Vice President of consumer lending, about […]
