How Ethiopia taught me to get over myself

For much of my time in Ethiopia, I felt invincible. This led to overconfidence at times, and awareness of my own human fragility was overwhelming.

Facing Fears and Traveling Alone: On the Road with Anna Zalazar

This is a travel hacking case study. (Read others or nominate yourself.) A while back I asked readers to share their stories of earning Frequent Flyer miles to travel the world. Review: AmEx Centurion Lounge Las Vegas Airport

American Express is doing something really innovative by opening up their own lounges at airports which their cardmembers frequent most. The footprint is small, but the lounges they do have blow the ones run by airlines out of the water.

American Express has started opening up more of their own airport lounges in part because quite a bit of value has been lost in terms of the lounge privileges of the American Express Platinum Card. The card used to get you access to American Admirals Clubs and US Airways Clubs, though that was discontinued in March. Furthermore, guesting privileges have been reduced at Delta SkyClubs as of May.

Amex has three lounges in the US so far:

-- The Centurion Lounge Las Vegas Airport

-- The Centurion Lounge Dallas DFW Airport

-- The Centurion Lounge New York LGA Airport

Beyond those lounges, Amex will be opening two more lounges in Miami and San Francisco over the coming year.

Will Apple Launch a Points and Payments Platform Today?

The Happiness of Pursuit on This Morning’s Morning Joe

I got up super early (well, for me) to head down to NBC Studios at Rockefeller Center. I went on the show for a short interview. The segment was a bit rushed (blame ISIS and abusive football players for taking up more of the time), but somehow I managed to be somewhat articulate.
