Review: Hotel Des Indes The Hague

On one hand vacationing in The Hague (or Den Haag, if you prefer) seemed kind of random to me at first. However:

-- I had some friends that recently visited and really enjoyed it

-- There's a Starwood Luxury Collection property there which gets great reviews

-- It's only a 30 minute train ride from Amsterdam Airport, so is a really easy side trip in conjunction with a visit to Amsterdam

In theory I love Starwood's Luxury Collection properties. I love hotel points, elite status, and the consistency which hotel chains offer, however don't really like the cookie cutter hotels. That's the benefit of Starwood's Luxury Collection, as they're all unique properties. They make you feel like you're not staying at a chain hotel in terms of the design, though you still get consistent elite benefits.

How to Get Your Bank to Pay You When Your Flight is Delayed or Luggage Gets Lost

Yesterday I got (multiple, cough) e-mails from Citibank about new benefits for their American Airlines co-brand products. With an email subject line like “Important Information About Your Protection Benefits” I assumed they’d be taking away benefits so Citi really needs to get better e-mail subject writers. In fact with a subject line like that, I’d […]

10 Interesting and Helpful Travel Websites

There many are with innovative ideas but are poorly executed and end up floundering. Then there […]

It’s Time to Clean Out the Credit Card Bag

After a major overhaul of my credit card stack I have the pile down to 27 active credit cards. I have easily cancelled ten in the last month that showed no promise for further use. The whole clean out was prompted by my realization that the credit card game is changing and I’d better keep […]

Here’s When You Should Still Mileage Run — Even Though Mileage Runs are Dead

Mileage running for the redeeming miles, the idea that you could fly cheap fares and redeem the miles for expensive tickets, never made much sense most of the time or for most people. By the time you factor in the value of time spent in airports and planes – your opportunity cost – you were […]
