How to Backpack Europe with a Baby

Last week, Cameron, our new family budget travel guru, talked about his travels and gave us a preview of his upcoming columns. Continuing the family travel topic, I thought it would be great to have our next reader interview on family travel. We haven’t had an interview on the topic yet so let me introduce Marcus and Paula, a young couple from New Zealand, who took their ten month old to Europe. They virtually sit down and talk about their […]

Yes, There IS a Limit on How Many Credit Cards You Can Get

How many actual credit cards have you owned? One of the credit scoring agencies lists 87 credit cards in my record over the last five years. Another agency that keeps longer records suggests that I have had 109 since I started this game and Katy at 108. That means we have received over 200 credit […]

The Earthmelting Truck

Grunge HDR If you’ll notice, I haven’t been doing much grungy HDR stuff lately. I never did that much back in the day, but I did dabble in it. I could do more, I suppose, but I don’t really seek out all those abandoned kinda places. I don’t know why. I know some people really […]

~$1,500 West Coast To Europe Business Class Tickets!

Over the past several weeks we've seen several business class fare wars to Europe, which are always exciting. For example, a few weeks ago we saw ~$2000 fares between the West Coast and Europe. Last week we saw similarly good fares between the East Coast and Europe.

The best part of both of these offers was that they were stackable with some other great promotions -- you could receive a $400 discount when booking through AARP, and then save a further 10% when paying with the British Airways Visa Signature® Card, as long as all flights are operated by British Airways.

The good news is that it looks like some similarly good fares are back for travel on oneworld -- I'm seeing business class fares of ~$2,100 for travel between Las Vegas, San Diego, or Seattle, and Amsterdam, Milan, and Rome. I'm sure there are other markets where it's available as well, though those are the ones I came across.

Tons Of Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Award Space!

A couple of weeks ago Virgin Atlantic announced some pretty major operational changes, which mostly involved them adding routes to the US and eliminating routes to destinations in the East (including discontinuing service to Mumbai and Tokyo Narita).

Their expansion plans included additional flights to Atlanta, Miami, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. The odd thing is that while the new routes were announced a while back, they hadn't actually been loaded into the schedule. I had been checking on a near daily basis, as new flights and routes tend to result in more award availability.

While they haven't loaded all of their new routes into the schedule yet, they have loaded the following new services, and for the most part, award availability is excellent:

The Samsung Galaxy S5 really does take good photos, even in low light and even with someone at the controls who cannot do more than point and shoot (and isn’t great at holding steady).
