Wow! A thrilling flight on an endangered warbird

Rust and neglect are sending the amazing planes that helped win World War II to America's junkyards. A self-described "air force" aims to save these historic machines by restoring them and flying them across the nation.

Going to Australia on a work visa

Befriend more Germans, Brits, and Canadians than Australians: One of the hazards of living with mostly foreigners is that you don't know any Australians.

Starwood Pulls Their Terms and Conditions Changes Off The Website

Yesterday morning I wrote about Starwood’s new terms and conditions. Lots of cleanup, new sections and changes related to the introduction of SPG Pro, there were also some rather odd additions like an agreement that any Starwood member won’t challenge the chain’s trademarks and that gifting awards to others when you’re not staying won’t earn […]

25% Discount On Purchase Of United MileagePlus Miles

United MileagePlus is running one of the most ridiculous promotions I've seen in a while. Through 11:59PM CT on December 31, 2014, United is publicly offering a 25% discount on the purchase of MileagePlus miles.

With the 25% discount, you're looking at a purchase price of ~2.82 cents per MileagePlus mile.

That's not a very good rate for purchasing miles, though at least it's valid for several months and there's not a minimum threshold you have to reach in order to receive the 25% discount (you just need to purchase 2,000 miles), unlike with past promotions. In terms of other promotions they've recently offered for the purchase of miles:

The Sun Sets in the Sahara Desert

Hot vs. Cold places later in life After growing up in Texas, I really love the cool climates of New Zealand. I like dressing in layers and never really getting hot! But I know people that are the opposite. I think it kind of depends on where you grow up and how you might be […]

Why Do Japanese Airlines Have Such Bad Credit Cards?

There are lots of mega sign-up bonuses on credit cards nowadays. Many of us won't even consider applying for a card unless it has at least a 50,000 point sign-up bonus.

Then on the other end of the spectrum you have credit card sign-up bonuses that are so bad that they're comical.

For example, in April I wrote about the sign-up bonus being offered by the Japan Airlines MasterCard, whereby they were offering a stuffed animal as a sign-up bonus... but only for the first 100 approved applicants!

In terms of equally amusing sign-up bonuses and promotions, ANA sent out an email to all Mileage Club members in the US today about their "Double Shopping Mile Campaign."
