Will Hyatt Bring Back My Elite Rate In 2015?

Hyatt Gold Passport made some changes at the beginning of the year, which were both positive and negative.

First Hyatt announced an award chart devaluation, which was substantial though justifiable, in my opinion. We saw the introduction of Category 7 properties, whereby six of Hyatt's most expensive properties went from costing 22,000 points per night to 30,000 points per night; other levels weren't impacted quite as much.

The following week Hyatt announced some positive changes to the Gold Passport program, though, which in my opinion outweighed the devaluation. The two most positive changes were:

Here’s Why Airlines and Hotels Won’t Let You Sell Your Points

The cover story of this month’s Inside Flyer is called “The Ethics of a Mile” and deals with gifting, bartering and selling awards — and the consequences for violating a program’s rules. In general, most airline and hotel programs will let you gift an award ticket or hotel night to anyone you wish (although some […]

Are You Buying US Airways Miles at $0.0188 Per Mile?

The current — and possibly last — opportunity to buy US Airways miles with the 100% bonus is available now through October 12th. You can get up to 50,000 miles and have that amount doubled to 100K for about $1,800 including excise taxes. I hate buying miles without having a clear cut award redemption in […]

Story behind the shot: Giza, Egypt

All my previous photos of the pyramids had been filled with traffic, tourists, and hawkers. I knew I needed to try something different.

Review: Cathay Pacific “The Wing” First Class Lounge Hong Kong

After a brief visit to The Bridge, we headed towards The Wing, which houses one of Cathay Pacific's first class lounges at Hong Kong Airport. The lounge has both a first and business class section, and both have unique concepts and spaces. I've reviewed The Wing First Class Lounge before, so I'll keep this review brief.

I really planned the order of our visits poorly. The Wing is located just past immigration, while The Bridge is located near gate 35. Our flight was leaving from gate 43. So really we should have visited The Wing, then The Bridge, and then gone to our flight, rather than The Bridge, then hauling back towards immigration for The Wing, and then to the gate.

If it's any justification, I was hoping to have lunch in The Wing, and they weren't yet serving that when we cleared immigration.

While there's a train running between gate 1 and gate 35 at Hong Kong Airport, it's one-way, so you can't take it in the other direction. So we made the roughly 15 minute trek between lounges, which is always a nice walk.

Dylan Thomas’s Wales

Few places meant more to the Welsh poet than Swansea, on Wales’s southwest coast. “This sea-town was my world,” he wrote of the “ugly lovely” place where he grew up and wrote the majority of his life’s work.

For Saudi Arabia, The Hajj Is Big Business

The annual Muslim pilgrimage is turning into a luxury experience. That's good for the Saudi economy, but not for low-income Muslims.

Watching Someone Quit At A Park Hyatt

Okay, so it wasn't a hotel employee, but it was still pretty amusing. ;)

Yesterday afternoon I had to check out of the Park Hyatt Seoul at 4PM, though my flight wasn't until midnight (well, at least in theory... until it wasn't). I still had some work to get done, so decided to sit in The Lounge, which is the name of the lobby lounge on the 24th floor, so that I could have dinner while using wifi.

It's a gorgeous space and the service is exceptional.... so good that it's comical.

I had a lovely Korean dish, so was generally a happy camper.
