The White House Prostitution Scandal: DHS Inspector General Learns 2nd Guest is Free for HHonors Members

When the secret service prostitution scandal first broke in 2012, Spirit Airlines ran a sale. But it turns out that wasn’t the only travel angle to the story, aside from the fact that it occurred in Cartagena. The story is back in the news because of a recent news report that the Administration was aware […]

50K The Lufthansa Way

Here is another nice sign-up bonus that many have missed over the years, me included! I never considered getting many foreign airline cards as it seemed such a hassle to redeem. It’s time for this “old guy” to reconsider! Sign up with Lufthansa: the non-waived $79 fee, ding to your credit score, and effort are […]

You Have To See This Travel Agency Advertisement

A Scottish travel agency, Thorne Travel, released a new "advertisement" a few days ago which is getting quite a bit of attention. Here's the roughly three minute video on YouTube.

I mean... wow. The Telegraph reveals the most terrifying part of the video (as if Mickey Mouse didn't have that covered):

Co-ordinating the perfect strut took staff four days to perfect in the office. "We got some funny looks through the window, I can tell you."

That "perfect strut" took them four days to perfect?! :o

Visiting Cairo On A Stopover

I had a brief stopover in Cairo this week on my way to Doha for Qatar Airways’ inaugural A380 flight. My friend Tiffany was there at about the same time (it just worked out that way), so we spent a morning touring Cairo.

Many of you asked questions about Egypt, and while I’ll have a full report eventually, I am way behind on trip reports so it could be awhile. Tiffany offered to put together some notes on our visit, and answer some of the most frequent questions, given that she handled the research and booking.

Reader Recs: World’s Best Markets

I Reached 75 Night Platinum With Starwood… Yay?

In April I started living in hotels full time, and have been primarily staying at Hyatt and Starwood properties. I also mix in a fair number of Hilton and Club Carlson properties when they're more convenient, thanks to the benefits offered by their co-branded credit cards:

-- The Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card offers a free night when you redeem for two or more award nights, so if you stay in two night increments that's basically buy one get one free.

-- The Citi® Hilton HHonors Reserve Card offers Gold status for as long as you have the card, plus Diamond status when you spend $40,000 on the card in a year. While I don't love Hilton properties in general, they have a massive footprint, unlike Hyatt and Starwood.

Sapphire Preferred vs. EveryDay Preferred – Which Card Wins?

Last week, American Express announced that, starting in 2015, the Premier Rewards Gold card would no longer offer a 15,000-point bonus for spending $30,000 or more in a calendar year. That prompted us to reevaluate Amex’s Membership Rewards cards in a showdown that pitted the Premier Rewards Gold against the Platinum and EveryDay Preferred cards. […]
