St. Peter’s Spiritual Temple in Memphis, Tennessee
As most locals would have it, St. Peter’s Spiritual Temple, the Memphis neighborhood known to most who don't live there as, "Voodoo Village" is a haunted hub of strangeness responsible for stopped cars and voodoo curses, but in reality, it is simply a community that expresses their spirituality through homemade art installations rife with Masonic imagery.
Legends about the off-the-beaten path neighborhood abound among the local teens. ranging from raving voodoo priests to ghosts to very real, baseball wielding maniacs. These strange tales are thanks in no small part to the countless, brightly colored folk art pieces that decorate many of the yards and buildings. The selection of strange pieces ranges wildly from some of the pieces living up (down?) to the superstitions, such as a large cross with nails jutting from every angle, while others appear as simply rainbow colored fences and ladders. There is however a distinct Masonic influence to the pieces with the symbol of the Freemasons adorning many of the pieces. The truth of the village however is not so sinister, yet still strange.
The community was started in the 1960's by a spiritual leader named Wash Harris who named the neighborhood, "St. Peter’s Spiritual Temple.” Harris's followers seem to follow some form of mixed Christianity with a heavy dose of Masonic devotion. The odd lawn ornaments were created as fetishized devotionals, and the strange and possibly cultish take-over of the area did nothing to assuage the fears the (let's be honest, likely largely caucasian) Memphis locals, who soon dubbed the area "Voodoo Village."
Today the community is still the target of near constant visits from teens looking to overcome some local rite of passage who zoom in and out of the neighborhood to gawk and harass the people living there. Maybe understandably there have been accounts of people being chased off by baseball-bat wielding residents who are absolutely not interested in being made into regressive urban legend.

How to Avoid Getting Taken By a Rental Car Company Over Damage
Christopher Elliott thinks that car rental companies are too quick to blame consumers for damage, and consumers too unwilling to own up to damaging cars. Both claims are probably true. As the last renter of a vehicle, a rental car company may assume you caused damage. But a car could have had pre-existing, undocumented damage […]

80% Bonus On Virgin America Elevate Points Tomorrow
Virgin America's Elevate program is offering an 80% bonus on the purchase of points tomorrow, Tuesday, October 21, 2014. The promotion will last for only eight hours, from 9AM to 5PM EST.
They're claiming it's their "Biggest Elevate Points Bonus Ever," which I guess is technically true, since they've never offered a bigger bonus. Though last March they did offer the same 80% bonus.
Virgin America Elevate points ordinarily cost 5.2 cents each to purchase, so through this promotion Virgin America Elevate points can be purchased for ~2.89 cents each. You can purchase up to 20,000 points per account per calendar year, before factoring in the 80% bonus (meaning you can purchase a maximum of ~36,000 points through this promotion).

The Chase Ink Plus 70,000 point signup offer was advertised as running through October 19th. Readers had ample warning that the offer was going to be pulled, but I noted this morning that the Chase site still had the application and offer live. So anyone that meant to sign up still could. Some folks thought […]
