New FlyerTalk Premium Fare Deals Forum

It has been over a decade since I've flown longhaul economy class, and that's thanks almost exclusively to miles & points.

The truth is at this point I just won't fly longhaul economy unless I really have to. And since my schedule is usually extremely flexible and there are so many ways to fly premium cabins on miles, I haven't really had to up until now.

But nowadays miles and points aren't the only way to get into premium cabins for relatively cheap. One other trend I've noticed over the past few years is that many paid first and business class fares have become more reasonable. This has happened in two ways:

The New World of Travel Writing

There are more ways than ever to make money writing about travel—from writing for third-party outlets (publications, websites) to working with travel-related companies such as luggage and clothing manufacturers, hotels, airlines, and tourism boards. The issue this ever-broadening spectrum has raised for me is a thorny one that has been around for a long time in one guise or another, but that seems even more central now. Namely: Who controls the content?

Air Canada 2015 Elite Program Changes

Air Canada has announced some major changes to their 2015 elite program.

To clarify, the Altitude program is separate from the Aeroplan program, which is Aeroplan's spun off frequent flyer program.

While there are some good and bad elements to the changes, overall they're brutal. You know it's bad news when they introduce the changes as follows:

"Several changes have been made to Air Canada Altitude™ for 2015. These changes are being introduced following a thorough benchmarking exercise in order to competitively position Air Canada alongside the world's leading carriers. Air Canada remains committed to offering one of the world's best frequent flyer programs."

Chicago Seminar Recap: Computer Security Tips and Tricks

My background is in technology. I used to be more of a hardcore geek: building PCs, running computer network cable, planning server deployments and IT consulting.
