Flying Can Be Frustrating… And That’s Fine…
I'll be the first to admit that I'm somewhat desensitized to people having airport meltdowns. And that's despite the fact that I understand that some people are traveling for much more important reasons than I am, be it a funeral, wedding, birth of a child, etc.
But I get the frustration. I really do. What I don't get, however, are the meltdowns, because they just don't accomplish anything.
But I think I also figured out why I've been somewhat desensitized to all this. I've realized that over the past two years I've had amazing flight reliability. Like, in 2013 and the first half of 2014, I can't off the top of my head recall a single major delay I've had, and that's despite flying 600,000+ miles over that time period.

New: No Annual Fee on 50,000 British Airways Avios Offer

Another Beautiful 747 Retirement Video
There's no denying that the 747 changed commercial aviation, and that it will always be the "queen of the skies." And there's no denying that the 747 has a special place in lots of peoples' hearts, given how long it has been flying.
The Airbus A380 is bigger, and I prefer it from a passenger comfort standpoint. But I don't get quite the same feeling when boarding an A380 as I do when boarding a 747.
For that matter, I don't think the A380 actually revolutionizes many aspects of commercial aviation. With smaller long range aircraft that are more fuel efficient (like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350), it's tough to justify the whale jet. Ultimately passengers value frequencies and direct flights, and that's an area where the A380 can't compete.
Anyway, given what a gas guzzler the 747 is, we're seeing a lot of airlines retire them, especially in favor of the much more fuel efficient 777-300ER.

Free Money and Free Miles from Softcard
Softcard is the former Isis Mobile Wallet, renamed because they had a little bit of a branding problem. Via an app it lets you use your mobile phone for tap to pay transactions at retail merchants. And they want you to adopt their system in an increasingly competitive space, such as against Google Wallet and […]

Review: Qatar Airways First Class A330 Cairo to Doha
Upon being dropped off at our remote stand I took the stairs up to door 2L, where I was greeted by the friendly crew.
They pointed me left to the business class cabin. Much to my surprise I was the first passenger in business class, despite the fact that I wasn't on the first bus to the plane.
Before I get too far into this report, I think it's worth clarifying what's a rather confusing matter for Qatar Airways on flights within the Middle East. The business class cabin on flights within the Middle East is marketed and sold as first class. So on flights from Doha to Dubai, Cairo, Bahrain, etc., there is no business class cabin. Instead there's only first class, though it features business class seats.
The good news is that since you're technically in first class you get first class lounge access, first class champagne (KRUG!!!), etc. If you're on a paid business class fare you'll automatically be booked in first class on the connecting flights within the Middle East.

ACT QUICKLY: Entire First Class Cabin Open for Awards, American’s New Los Angeles-London Flight
I noted yesterday that American is launching a second daily Los Angeles – London flight. That gives American two flights, and their joint venture partner British Airways two flights. (BA used to operate three flights, but reduced frequency when they up-gauged to an Airbus A380 from LAX.) Often when flights are loaded into a system […]

PSA: Don’t Wear A Speedo On A Plane
A video by Jerome Jarre is making its way around the internet, after he ran through the cabin of an American 737 between Mexico City and Miami in a Speedo this past Tuesday. I had never heard of this guy before this incident, though he's apparently "social media famous."
Via Adweek:
"The international incident became worldwide news and trended on Twitter when he implored his fans to tweet with the hashtag #americanairlineschillout."
