First look: George Lucas' $300M museum

No, you're not looking at an idyllic scene from pre-Death Star Alderaan. This futuristic building is the plan for George Lucas' $300-million art museum on Chicago's lakefront.

Exploring Fiji’s Gorge-ous Interior

On a raft floating down Fiji’s Upper Navua River gorge, under dangling 100-foot vines, time stops. Like a tropical Grand Canyon, this gorge slices through the volcanic heart of Viti Levu—the largest island of the Fijian archipelago—and redefines island paradise.

Pros And Cons Of The British Airways Visa

The British Airways Visa Signature® Card has launched a new offer whereby the annual fee is waived for the first year. The card benefits haven't changed, but the $0 introductory annual fee is a new perk, so it may be worth giving this card a second look. I thought it would be helpful to go through the details of the card, along with the pros and cons as I see them.

To recap, the British Airways Visa Signature® Card offers 50,000 bonus Avios after $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. This bonus offer is available to those who have NOT received a cardmember bonus for this product in the past 24 months, which is something to keep in mind.

One of the perks of the British Airways Visa Signature® Card is an award companion ticket (officially called the British Airways Travel Together ticket) when you spend $30,000 on the card in a calendar year.

In order to use the Travel Together ticket you have to be departing from the US, though stopovers and open jaws are allowed. When you redeem the companion ticket the second passenger doesn’t have to pay any miles, but is still responsible for paying all taxes, fees, and fuel surcharges.

Baltia Air Lines 747 Interior Revealed

In August I heard about Baltia Air Lines for the first time, and I've been kind of obsessed ever since. To say I've been stalking them would be an understatement (hey, something had to replace La Compagnie, given that they're operating fairly reliably nowadays).

Baltia Air Lines claims to be "America's newest airline." The only problem is they've been that for about 25 years now, and still haven't flown their first passenger flight.

In my previous post I wrote about their supposed business plan of flying 747s between New York and Eastern Europe, about their Golden Rooster Club loyalty program, and about how they'll apparently offer premium cabin passengers complimentary chauffeur service.

It's really amusing to watch their Facebook page as well. Too bad Facebook wasn't around 25 years ago. If you think they're moving at a snail's pace now, imagine what they've been doing for the previous 25 years!

A Totally New Award Chart Coming to a Star Alliance Amex Membership Rewards Partner: The Good and the Bad

Yesterday commenter TJ flagged that ANA is introducing a new zone-based award chart effective April 12. The only problem is that I haven’t found an English-version of the announcement, and have been on travel and time-constrained. We care because ANA: Is a Star Alliance member, so their miles can be used on a variety of […]

Travel made me a better atheist

I had to be equally contemptuous of all religions, so as I entered each new country, I tried to take in the cultures without taking in their religions.

Aer Lingus Starting Washington Dulles Flights In 2015

For a long time it has been rumored that Aer Lingus will expand service to the United States, and apparently Dallas was at the top of the list of new destinations. Prior to that Aer Lingus expanded to San Francisco and Toronto, and that growth has been performing very well for them.

On Monday I posted about how Aer Lingus would be announcing their latest US destination today, and that it would apparently be on the US east coast. As far as I'm concerned, that narrowed it down to Miami and Washington Dulles.

Well, Aer Lingus has now announced their US expansion, and it looks like their newest route will be Dublin to Washington Dulles. But the growth goes beyond that.

Here's a rundown of Aer Lingus' service expansion between Dublin and North America as of next summer, via airlineroute.net:
