Travel Habits With Your Plus One

This is what my wife Sara wants when she travels: a window seat near the front of the plane (no bulkhead), available overhead bin space and a seat next to her husband. For me, if I’m not in a premium cabin, I prefer an aisle seat so I can stick my leg out and have […]

Meguro Parasitological Museum in Meguro, Japan

Meguro Parasitological Museum

Billing itself as the only establishment in the world entirely devoted to parasites, this quirky little museum has become a popular offbeat attraction - and even date spot - in the relatively quiet Meguro neighborhood of Japan's sprawling capital.

The ground floor might seem harmless enough - lights flash on oversize maps of Japan to show where different parasites are present - but go up the stairs and things take a more gruesome turn.

Photographs show the severely distended testicles of the unfortunate human host of a tropical bug. Nearby, a giant herpetological parasite pokes out of a bottled turtle's head. The museum has over 45,000 immersed and prepared parasite specimens in its collection.

But the prize attraction is undoubtedly the world's longest tapeworm - all 8.8 metres of it - accompanied by a rope the same length that you can "play with" to get a real "feel" for its dimensions. The small gift shop sells a cheery range of parasite-themed T-shirts, keyrings, and birthday cards.

The Flaming Anasazi Ruins

Getting Super-Lost What is the most lost you’ve ever gotten? I get lost a lot, and it usually doesn’t bother me. The one below did a little bit because I did have a much-desired destination at a certain time of the day for the light! It caused me a bit of stress, which I usually […]

British Airways’ New “The Welcome Of Home” Ad Campaign

British Airways is back with another tearjerker!

As some of you may remember, last July British Airways unveiled their "Visit Mum" campaign, which was one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen.

It takes a lot for me to get emotional, but this one really did it for me. I think as travelers we can all relate to the sentiment expressed in the video in one form or another. And that doesn't even account for how beautifully the video was produced.

While British Airways has had some decent ad campaigns since then, nothing has quite matched "Visit Mum," in my opinion... until now.

British Airways just unveiled their latest ad campaign, entitled "The Welcome of Home." It might just be on par with "Visit Mum," and is a tearjerker.

Shocking Video Of Hotel Housekeeping

A video is circulating the web of a hotel housekeeper rummaging through a guest's belongings.

This video was apparently taken on November 5, 2014, at a US hotel, and based on the room design it looks to me like a Hampton Inn (though I could be wrong).

In the video a housekeeper is seen:

-- Looking at a package the guest received

-- Trying to log into the guest's computer multiple times

-- Looking at the guest's video games and tablet

-- Using the same gloves to make the bed that she used in the bathroom

American Bringing Back Year-End Purchase of Qualifying Miles Tomorrow

Over the weekend American’s “status buy back / buy up” page went from ‘offer expired’ to ‘coming soon.’ That made it a pretty good bet that American would be re-introducing a way to either buy back status you had in the previous year but didn’t requalify for, or buy elite qualifying miles to put you […]

500 Free Starpoints!

In September I wrote about Starwood's More For You promotion, which is their global fall promotion, offering double and triple Starpoints on select stays.

The registration deadline has already passed and it's not the world's most lucrative promotion, though there is one thing that they actually added to the promotion, which should interest everyone.

With the redesign of spg.com, Starwood has begun collecting more member preferences, in an effort to better customize stays. After all, when I go to Disney I'm not traveling with the Brady Bunch, and it would be nice if Starwood knew that.

Anyway, Starwood wants you to update your stay preferences on your spg.com profile, and they'll give you 500 bonus Starpoints if you do so by December 15, 2014.
