Review: Qatar Airways First Class A380 Doha to London Heathrow

We boarded through the upper deck door, where we were greeted by the friendly crew. I made it clear right away that we'd like to take some pictures of the cabin if possible, so they stayed out of our way for a couple of minutes, as we had the cabin mostly to ourselves.

The first class cabin is to the left of the main entry door, and consists of a total of eight seats, spread across two rows in a 1-2-1 configuration.

The cabin is gorgeous. It's not nearly as private as the fully enclosed suites that Asiana, China Southern, and Emirates offer on the A380, though aesthetically I'd say it's among the most beautiful A380 cabin out there, along with Lufthansa.

The seats don't have much privacy while on the ground, though once airborne there's a partition you can raise between seats for added privacy.

Buy Up To AAdvantage Elite Status For 2015

On Sunday morning I wrote about how it looked like American would be bringing back an elite renewal offer this year.

Last year American AAdvantage offered the Elite Boost offer, whereby if you were within 10,000 elite qualifying miles of a status level, you could purchase the remaining needed elite qualifying miles needed for status.

American has now published a similar promotion for this year, though they've changed a couple of things about it.

First of all, previously you could only buy up to the next status level if you were within 10,000 elite qualifying miles of your desired status level. This year you can buy up if you're within 15,000 elite qualifying miles of your desired status level.

Airline Service is Bad Because They Can’t Fire flight attendants, Another Massive Devaluation, and 500 Free Starpoints

News and notes from around the interweb: Airline service is bad because they can’t fire flight attendants. I think it’s deeper than that, here’s why flight attendants offer poor service and why airlines aren’t nice. Massive devaluation of the El Al Matmid program coming in February. That’s one I didn’t see coming. A germaphobe’s strategies […]

Singapore Airlines Flying New 777s To Australia

In 2013, Singapore Airlines announced a refresh for the cabins on their Boeing 777-300ERs. I tend to think of the changes more as lipstick on a supermodel than anything else, since all the cabins maintained their original "bones," and most of the changes were with the finishes.

Singapore isn't in a rush to retrofit these new interiors throughout their fleet, so this isn't one of those product refreshes that's complete within 12-18 months. Instead, the 777s they're newly taking delivery of feature this product, and at some point I'm sure they'll get around to refreshing their existing fleet.

Up until now, the refreshed 777-300ERs have been operating select flights to London Heathrow and Tokyo Narita. They haven't published an exact schedule for the new aircraft, since they have the same layout as others, but those are the two routes that the refreshed cabins frequent most.

Via AusBT, Singapore Airlines will being flying their refreshed 777s to Australia as well. The new 777-300ERs will be operating the following flights to Australia:
