Hello from Dubai!
Earlier today I had high tea with my Dad at the Burj al Arab -- just one of many "highs" so far on this trip. I'll have lots more updates and videos throughout the week, but so far this has hands-down been the best trip of my life, and it's just getting started.

"If you have never flown Emirates first class you have never flown first class."
At least that's what my dad said to my mom when we were FaceTiming her this morning.
I remember my first time on Emirates, which was possibly the most excited I've ever been about a flight. That's because I didn't actually book Emirates, but rather for reasons I couldn't figure out, British Airways rebooked me on them after a small delay, despite having a really long connection. The element of surprise on that trip was amazing, as I never thought I'd have the opportunity to fly with Emirates in first class.
And I think my excitement was reflected in that trip report.
Well, I think my flight on Emirates from Los Angeles to Dubai with my dad on Thursday was even more fun. I had a front row seat to a level of excitement that I don't think I've ever witnessed before.

There's a story going viral about a guy that racked up a ~$1,200 inflight internet charge on his Singapore Airlines flight between London and Singapore.
The story as such doesn't have any merit. Singapore Airlines very clearly publishes their "overage" charges, and this guy was trying to upload some documents which took up a lot of data. And given how slow the inflight wifi is, you often have to try several times, which takes up even more data. So it's his fault for racking up so many charges, because he should have known better. After all, there's an inflight wifi "status" page which shows your usage up until that point in the flight.
That being said, this situation does expose how ridiculously overpriced wifi on Singapore Airlines is, and how far off base the airline is with their approach to inflight wifi. I've written about this several times in the past, and it is indeed very frustrating.

There's been a rumor buzzing around that the signup bonus and/or minimum spend on our beloved Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is going to change on Monday.
A reliable source was just able to confirm these changes, and new application terms will be in effect as of Monday morning.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred is my all around favorite credit card, and the one that I use the most of all the credit cards in my wallet.
Currently, you can earn 40,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $3,000 within three months, plus an additional 5,000 Ultimate Rewards points when you add an authorized user to the card that makes a purchase within three months. The $95 annual fee is waived for the first year.

I'm sure we all remember last year's crash of Asiana 214 between Seoul Incheon and San Francisco, which touched down short of the runway, causing both death and serious injuries.
In June the NTSB concluded that pilot error was the main cause of the accident.
Aside from the overall damage this does to the airline (reputation, lawsuits, insurance claims, etc.), how is Asiana being "punished" for the accident? Well, apparently by being issued a 45 day suspension on their route between Seoul and San Francisco:
