The 'expat spouse' label sucks

Jen Legra convincingly argues that the labels we give 'expat spouses' are super lame and need to change. What do you think?

When Should I Freeze My Credit Reports?

Preventing a credit reporting agency (Equifax, Experian or TransUnion) from releasing your credit report information without your explicit consent is more commonly known as freezing your credit report. Freezing your credit report is not the same thing as placing a fraud alert on your credit file, even though the terms are (unfortunately) often used interchangeably. […]

Furry Convention Evacuated To Dog Show At Hyatt Regency O’Hare

In October I shared my single favorite thing about living in hotels. It's not complimentary non-fat cappuccinos and egg white omelets in the morning. It's not never having to make my own bed. It's not massive suites.

Instead it's conventions. There's nothing quite as amusing to me as randomly ending up in the middle of a thousand person special interest convention.

From Hot Wheels Conventions to cheerleading conventions to biker gang conventions, I think I've almost witnessed everything.

The one thing I feel like I haven't yet witnessed is a furry convention. For those of you not familiar with furries, here's a good rundown NBC did:

Prince William Flew the US Airways Shuttle. Guess Where He Was Seated?

Back in May Prince William flew American Airlines coach. It was a bulkhead seat for Memphis – Dallas. This morning he flew first class onboard the US Airways shuttle to get from New York to DC. The ABC News article incorrectly indicates he flew from New York’s JFK airport. The shuttle flight originates at LaGuardia. […]

American Lie Flat Business Class Seats Coming To 757

As part of their "Going For Great" campaign (a slogan which I find peculiar yet remarkably honest, since American is admitting they're not great), American announced $2 billion in customer improvements over the coming years.

Now, a lot of the stuff in the press release has already been announced and is in the process of being implement. While American has a lot of faults, the transformation they've been going through has been really fun to watch. I remember a few years back when American had 400 MD-80s. To think how far they've come with the 777-300ERs, the new 737s, the A321s on transcons, etc. -- it really is a pretty radical transformation.

What else can we expect from American?

Hilton HHonors Amex Surpass Card 80,000 Point Sign-Up Bonus

Through February 28, 2015, the Hilton HHonors Surpass Card from American Express is offering an increased 80,000 HHonors points sign-up bonus after you spend $3,000 in purchases within your first three months of card membership. The card has a $75 annual fee, which isn't waived for the first year. This is the highest publicly available sign-up bonus I've ever seen on the card.

What makes this card so valuable is that it offers Hilton HHonors Gold status for as long as you have the card, which gets you free breakfast/lounge access (based on availability) and free internet at Hilton properties. To me those are the two most valuable hotel elite perks. So I do think it's worth having a co-branded Hilton credit card long term.

Hilton's credit card portfolio is especially unique because they have two co-branded credit card issuers -- American Express and Citi. The co-branded Hilton card I have is the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card.
