Airport Etiquette: Cutting Security Lines When Running Late?

Reader Mike asked the following question on the "Ask Lucky" page of the blog:

"What are you thoughts on those in security lines that ask to jump ahead because they’re late? Just yesterday I was called an asshole by some guy whose family was running behind to catch a flight and I refused to accommodate. Regardless of the reason, I’m late, they’re late, why should I allow another person ahead to increase my chances of misconnecting?"

It's an interesting question, and one I don't have an answer to. So I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Hello from Germany! I flew Singapore Airlines Suites Class from New York to Frankfurt last night. I wrote an extensive trip report about the same flight last month, so won't be reviewing it again, since it was basically the same (including the menu).

Instead I figured I'd share five thoughts on last night's flight:

How adorable is it that Singapore Airlines has wreaths aboard their aircraft? While I'm not much of a holiday person, there's something nice about getting a bit festive when flying (preciously I just relied on holiday themed cocktails as a way of getting festive). ;)

Incredible Airbus A350 Formation Flying Video

While this video has been around for a few weeks, for some reason I never got around to posting it. For those of you that haven't yet seen, check out this insane video of five Airbus A350s flying in formation.

I'm a huge commercial airplane nerd, and while it's common to see these kinds of formation flights with military aircraft, you almost never see this with commercial planes. This is just too cool.

SAS Houston To Stavanger Business Class Award Space

There aren't many things I love more than an airline starting a unique route. And in 2014 I think SAS took the cake for starting the most unique route. Since August 20, 2014, SAS operates 6x weekly flights between Houston and Stavanger, Norway.

The flight is operated by a PrivatAir 737, featuring just 44 business class seats spread across 11 rows.

The flight operates with the following schedule:

SK951 Stavanger to Houston departing 3:50PM arriving 7:55PM

SK952 Houston to Stavanger departing 9:45PM arriving 2:15PM (+1 day)

An Apology (And Decision On Moderating Comments)…

On Friday I shared the first part of the story of my plane side bag being misplaced. While it blows my mind that a plane side bag on a nonstop flight can be misplaced, I get that stuff like this happens if you fly enough.

To add insult to injury, I dealt with an exceedingly unhelpful supervisor. But what really pissed me off was when she accused me of taking a picture of her, which I didn't do. When I denied it, she told me she could call law enforcement, and when I asked her to look at my camera roll, she walked away. There's something really crappy about not only dealing with an unhelpful supervisor, but then having her accuse you of something without merit, and then threatening you further after you deny it.
