AirAsia QZ8501 Surabaya – Singapore Missing

An AirAsia flight from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore has gone missing. There are 162 on-board. It's last known position was just off the southern coast of Borneo.

Events like this are scary for everyone, no matter where in the world you are located. However, they hit a little close to home when they either happen in your neck of the woods, or a neck of the woods where you are currently traveling or have recently traveled.

My family arrived in Brunei just yesterday on Malaysian Airlines. The last known position of this plane is just a few hundred miles south of here. Moreover, we flew AirAsia from Jakarta to Singapore at the start of our month-long Southeast Asian Adventure a few weeks ago. A little close to home indeed.

Passenger Listening to Loud Music Causes Delta Flight to Divert, Because Ferguson

A Delta flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles on Christmas Day diverted to Albuquerque over a ‘security issue’ with a first class passenger. An incident report shows that issue was a 27-year-old Wichita man’s singing aloud to music playing from his headphones, which bothered other passengers. When he was asked by another passenger and later […]

The New Smart Choice for Barbecue in the Barbecue Capital of the World: Black’s of Lockhart Now in Downtown Austin

My favorite barbecue – anywhere – is Black’s in Lockhart, Texas. I believe barbecue is all about the meat, and that meat is brisket. Sauce shouldn’t be necessary, it just hides the taste of good barbecue. I’ve had Franklin Barbecue in Austin and it is amazing. Technically perfect, even. But I find Black’s brisket more […]

The Compact University Power Adapter I Use on All My International Travels

When you travel outside the United States, most countries have different power outlets. Their outlets don’t fit U.S. plugs They may have a different electric current. Generally I don’t worry about the electric current. Most modern electronics are going to be ‘dual voltage’ so you just have to be able to plug them into the […]

First Look: Etihad’s New Apartment In The Sky

Earlier today I took the Etihad Airways inaugural A380 flight from Abu Dhabi to London.

I've been so excited by the Etihad A380 ever since the interiors were revealed in May of this year, given that it was truly revolutionary, with the introduction of three new products: The Residence, First Apartments, and Business Studios.

To my knowledge I'm the only person who has reviewed first class on every airline that operates the A380, which up until now included Air France, British Airways, China Southern, Emirates, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Thai Airways.

We've seen some airlines innovate with the A380 -- Singapore Airlines was the first to take delivery of the A380, and they added double beds in Suites Class.
