You Can Ask United to Give You Top Tier Revenue-Based Global Services Status!

At American and Delta, the top services aren’t part of the mileage program, a separate elite tier. At United, in contrast, their revenue-based status Global Services is actually a true top tier — Global Services members get their upgrades ahead of 100,000 mile flyers, and even trump the usual upgrade priority so that full fare […]

Avoiding the Worst Airport Germs, Prank Calling American Airlines, and a New Years Eve Uber Driver Tells All

News and notes from around the interweb: An UberX driver chronicles her New Years Eve. No one puked in her car, but she was propositioned with pizza.. Flat whites come to Starbucks January 6! I always order these at the Andaz 5th Avenue, and at a few other places in New York. It’s a coffee […]

Best Trip Ever: Introduction

I'll keep this introduction short, simply because it could be 50-Shades-Of-Grey-length if I actually shared all the planning details. After all, this trip was a year in the making.

In November my dad was celebrating a "round" birthday, and I wanted to make it extra special. I love my parents more than anything, and taking them on trips is possibly the greatest use of miles there is... and the greatest reward in life, for that matter.

In 2013 I took my mom on a trip to Bali for her "round" birthday, while I took my dad to Europe for his birthday.

Would You Fly 1700 Miles on a Regional Jet? With This New Route, Soon You Might!

Via Joe Brancatelli, Alaska Airlines will be contracting with Skywest to fly Embraer E175 regional jets between Seattle and both Milwaukee and Oklahoma City. Those are some long flights on a regional jet! Certainly Seattle – Milwaukee is one of the longest flights operated by a regional, but certainly not the longest in North America. […]

10 Most Read Posts Of 2014

While I figure one or two people read the blog every day (thanks, mom!), I don't really check my Google Analytics page more than once a week or so. I write what I write, and try to pay attention to overall feedback as opposed to micro-managing pageviews, comments, etc.

That being said, at the beginning of the year it is fun to go back and look at what the most popular posts of the previous year were.

So what were the 10 most read One Mile At A Time posts in 2014? Here they are, starting with the most read of the year:

How Do Normal People Ever Manage to Navigate Airline Bureaucracies? United Strands a New Mexico Monk Edition

Sometimes it amazes me that the public at large can successfully travel from one city to another without getting stymied by airline bureaucracies and ineptitude. Modern flight is truly miraculous. Modern airline technology, customer service, and business processes often are not. I run into frustrating situations with airlines all the time, and I do this […]

Saudia Won’t Introduce Gender Segregated Seating After All

Yesterday I shared the story from rt.com which suggested that Saudia would introduce gender segregated seating on their flights. On one hand it seemed a bit farfetched, on the other hand we're talking about a country where women aren't even allowed to drive, so it wouldn't have really surprised me that much...

The rt.com article read in part as follows:

"Saudi Arabia’s national airline carrier is planning to introduce gender segregation aboard its flights following complaints from passengers who refused to have random males seated next to their wives, the Kingdom’s media report."
