Ten Years Ago, I said Yes to Travel

Ten years ago, I embarked on the trip that would change my life. It was 2004 and I was trying to convince a friend to visit the Galapagos Islands the following January. He wasn’t sold on the idea and suggested Thailand instead. Since I didn’t care where we went so long as we went somewhere, I agreed. I just wanted to escape the winter. So in January 2005, we set off on our two week trip. If you had told […]

American AAdvantage Suffers a Data Hack, in Process of Re-Assigning Some Member Frequent Flyer Account Numbers

United MileagePlus was the victim of a data security breach at the end of last month. They’re hardly the first loyalty program to face this. Hilton HHonors members now have to certify that they aren’t robots every time they log into their accounts. This follows Hilton points for sale in large quantities on the DarkNet. […]

JetBlue Double TrueBlue Base Points Through March 8, 2015

JetBlue is offering double base flight points when you register, book, and fly by March 8, 2015. This is almost exactly the same as the promotion that JetBlue ran last year over the same time period.

The caveat here is that only travel booked after you register qualifies, so previously booked travel through March 8 wouldn't qualify towards the promotion. Furthermore, the bonus base points will only post 4-6 weeks after the end of the promotion period.

JetBlue ordinarily offers three base points per dollar spent, so through this promotion you'd earn six base points per dollar spent. On top of that, you earn an additional three points per dollar spent for reservations made on jetblue.com. That means during the promotion period you earn nine points per dollar spent on tickets at jetblue.com.

Did You Wonder What a Hotel Has to Actually Do For You If You’re Dissatisfied?

I’ve found that Starwood hotels are the best overall at responding to complaints. If something goes wrong on a stay, an email to Corporate Customer Service (customercare -at- starwoodhotels.com) generally takes care of it. I find that most of the time a meaningful complaint yields points equal to a free night’s stay at a given […]

A Night at the Airport

After being home for three whole weeks, I'd almost forgotten how to travel. Fortunately, unlocking travel master status is a lot like riding a bicycle. You go through the motions, packing your bag and choosing your seat on the plane.
