Review: Park Hyatt Sydney

Hands down the hotel I was most looking forward to on this trip was the Park Hyatt Sydney. It's unarguably the best hotel in Sydney, and arguably the nicest Park Hyatt in the world.

The last time I was in Sydney the hotel was undergoing a renovation, so I was excited to check out the "finished" product, even if I was a couple of years late.

I booked our four night stay at the Park Hyatt for 22,000 Gold Passport points per night. Last January this hotel went from being a Category 6 to being a Category 7 property, meaning that a stay at this property now costs 30,000 Gold Passport points per night, or pending Points + Cash availability, 15,000 Gold Passport points plus $300 per night.

Anyway, we arrived at the Park Hyatt shortly after 4PM. The entrance to the hotel is located off Hickson Road, right below the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Video: Adrift in the Dordogne Valley

I was first sent to the Dordogne Valley in southwestern France more than two decades ago to shoot a story about a truffle farmer for a food magazine. Later, when I tasted my first black truffle, I thought my head was going to explode with the heady new flavor. And by dark that first day, I was as hooked on truffles as I was on the place of their origin.

Social media is over-hyped (and some data to perhaps prove it)

If we're honest, we have all probably wondered whether social media is a case of the Emperor's new clothes.

Fewer People Are Flying Korean Air Due To Nut Rage Incident

Korean Air's nutty onboard incident has been all the rage lately, and I've covered it in great detail (thanks in no small part due to my love of first class and nuts!). ;)

For the most part the story seems to have a happy ending, at least for the "common man." Heather Cho has been punished and humiliated, and that's a win for the class struggle in Korea.

But it seems it's not just Heather Cho that has been impacted by the incident, but also Korean Air as a whole, who have seen demand drop by 6%. Via The Chosunilbo:

Etihad Reduces A380 Schedule To Sydney

Etihad's A380 is arguably the sexiest plane in the skies, thanks to their First Apartment and The Residence, which are possibly the two best premium cabin hard products in commercial aviation.

Much to my delight, Etihad has been making First Apartment award space readily available on their Abu Dhabi to London and Abu Dhabi to Sydney routes.

This is an incredible use of American AAdvantage miles, given that they have very attractive redemption rates without fuel surcharges.

Anyway, it looks like Etihad has made a minor A380 schedule adjustment on their Abu Dhabi to Sydney route. I wouldn't usually write about such a minor change, but in this case I know many of you have gone out of your way to book the A380, and I'd hate for anyone to be caught off guard by such a change.
