A Century of Map-Making at Nat Geo

March 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of National Geographic's cartographic division—which has created maps, globes, and atlases of the ocean floor, the night sky, and everywhere in between. Here are a few highlights from our map-making history.

Have A Business Platinum Card? Register For Free Inflight Wifi

In December I wrote about how The Business Platinum Card® from American Express OPEN was adding a new benefit as of this year. Specifically, those with the card receive 10 Gogo inflight wifi passes annually. At the time they hadn't announced exactly when the benefit would kick in, though it's now live.

You can now register for the Gogo Preferred Program, available exclusively through American Express.

To get your 10 free Gogo passes, simply enter your American Express card number and four digit CID code (note that this promotion is only available for the Business Platinum Card, and not the Platinum Card Card).

On the next page your eligibility will be confirmed, and you'll be prompted to sign into your Gogo account (if you don't have one yet, you can make it on this page).

Why “Make Something You Love” Still Matters

In the beginning of this video, Marie mentions that “it’s not rocket science” to start a successful small business these days. But she also notes that it takes time, effort, and attention.

Daily Getaways 2015 Returning In March

Daily Getaways is a promotion which has been offered the past few years as a way of encouraging US tourism. The promotion has consisted of all kinds of travel packages, from a set number of nights at a certain hotel, to outright being able to purchase hotel points at a discount.

It was a great promotion when it was first offered several years back, though over the years the deals have gotten worse and the competition for the few travel packages has increased exponentially. Nowadays it's almost like a lottery to pick up one of the packages, and that's not even accounting for the deals getting worse.

Anyway, it looks like Daily Getaways will be shaking things up a bit, as it's returning earlier than last year.

You’re About to Lose Choices in How You Book Travel. What the Expedia/Orbitz deals Means For You.

Expedia, which was already announced a deal last month to purchase Travelocity. Orbitz also made clear they were shopping themselves, and now Expedia is buying them, too. (HT: S.) The Travelocity deal wasn’t meaningful, they had long since given up investing in their search and booking platform. The Orbitz acquisition is a much bigger deal. […]

Hyatt Adding New Diamond Benefits, Including Elite Benefits For Friends

Hyatt has just announced some new elite benefits, which go live in the coming weeks. It's great to see that hotels continue to invest in improving the guest experience for elite members, while the opposite seems true of airlines.

Guest of Honor elite benefits, effective March 1, 2015

This is a really cool new benefit which shows Hyatt is really trying to extend hospitality between the traditional elite ranks. When you make a points booking for someone else as a Diamond member, that guest will receive all your elite benefits. The benefit is described as follows:

"Beginning March 1, members can extend their Diamond in-hotel benefits such as Regency Club or Grand Club access, free breakfast and late check out to family or friends when they transfer a free night stay using Hyatt Gold Passport points. By extending Diamond privileges to a members’ friends or family on an award stay, Hyatt is providing the warmest possible welcome and an extraordinary on-property experience."
