Kuwait Airways Vs. Qatar Airways Business Class?

On Friday I wrote about how I'm soon headed to the Park Hyatt Maldives, despite not really having a great reason to do so.

Park-Hyatt-Maldives

The Maldives isn't an easy destination to get to. First you have to fly to Male Airport, which is a bit of a haul, and then from there you have to take a seaplane and speedboat transfer to the actual hotel.

While I booked my hotel a while back, I'm just now trying to decide how to book my tickets to/from the Maldives. I've ultimately decided to fly into/out of Colombo, Sri Lanka. This is for a few reasons:

Etihad A380 First Class Awards Available To New York!!!

A few days ago Etihad Airways announced that they'd begin flying the Airbus A380 between Abu Dhabi and New York as of December 1, 2015.

While Emirates has well over 100 A380s on order, Etihad has only ordered a total of 10 of them, and will be flying them exclusively between Abu Dhabi and London, Sydney, and New York. Etihad's A380s are truly one-of-a-kind, in that they feature amazing First Class Apartments.

I had the opportunity to fly the Etihad A380 inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi to London late last year, and was blown away by the hard product. The First Class Apartment is unlike any first class hard product I've ever seen.

There’s Always Time to Write a Book

From Laura Vanderkam's busy year:
"I have never believed that book writing needs to be all-consuming. It wasn’t for Toni Morrison writing The Bluest Eye at night after her kids went to bed and let’s face it, we’re not likely to produce anything like The Bluest Eye no matter how much time we spend writing. Books are projects like any other. Incidentally, you can make time for the rest of your life too. I’m always amused by the lines in book acknowledgements in which authors (generally, male authors) thank their families for putting up with all their missed dinners. Not only am I not missing dinner, I’m generally cooking it."

Everything You Want to Know About Miles, Points, and Travel: Request for Requests

Here’s your chance. I will my best to cover them. Please leave requests in the comments section. As my boss once wrote making a similar request on his blog, “The only promise is that of weak monotonicity, namely that your mention won’t lower the chance of the topic being covered.” In other words, I won’t […]

My Experience as an Expert Witness in a Federal Criminal Trial About Miles and Points

Back in the Fall I started to write about a legal case surrounding miles and points where I served as an expert witness. The case had concluded, and the attorney who engaged me gave me signoff to post about it, with my commitment not to include any names. At the time we both thought it […]

Should I Redeem Points for Cash or Transfer to Airlines?

TPG reader Michael sent me a message asking: “I’ve accumulated 100,000 Membership Rewards points over the past year, but want to withdraw them for cash. I noticed American Express gives you gift cards at a rate of half a cent per point, which is highway robbery. My other credit cards give me 2% cash back,...

When Next in Australia, Don’t Pay for Those Expensive Domestic Flights

10467388874_9b481ec233_z Greetings from my favorite country! I’m in Australia for a few days (no public events this time—just writing and enjoying paradise). And here’s a tip: my favorite country can be a little expensive. Consider it a tax on paradise, but just about everything you purchase may seen a tad high if you’re coming from the states. Oh, and many parts of the country are still waiting for the internet to arrive—but presumably that’s improving. Domestic flights within Australia can be pricey too, but there’s a great alternative option: redeem American Airlines miles for flights on Qantas.

San Diego Airport Lounge Access for (Almost) Everyone

The Airspace Lounge opened last summer. There are (4) ways to access the lounge, which encompasses pretty much everyone: There’s no more American Airlines Admirals Club in San Diego, but Admirals Club members have access to the Airspace Lounge and indeed there’s an agent at the desk who can assist as though you were in […]
