Delta’s Next Transformative Step is Here, Introduces Revenue-Based Upgrades

Since the elimination of award charts from Delta’s website, I’ve been saying that: We won’t know when the airline devalues, since we don’t have an official benchmark to compare pricing to It’s a step towards a revenue-based program, where awards are priced dynamically based on the cost of a ticket at any given time. I’ve […]

Let’s Have Fewer Time Zones and Not Change the Clocks Twice a Year

I just had a call with a Forbes writer in Beirut. She asked for time to talk before we changed our clocks in the U.S. I did get the agreed-upon time right in my calendar, but it took a few minutes to figure it out for sure. It didn’t help that I was in one […]

70,000 Points Plus Four Other Reasons This Is The Best Hotel Credit Card

I've written in the past about the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card, which I'd argue is the single most compelling hotel credit card to keep long term. Readership on the blog is constantly growing, and I know a lot of people might not be familiar with what makes this card so awesome, so I figured I'd share.

First of all, the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card comes with a 70,000 point sign-up bonus after spending $1,000 within three months of account opening, provided you haven't received the bonus in the past 24 months. The annual fee on the card is $49, though it's waived the first year.

With that in mind, here are five things that make this card especially awesome:

Is Purchasing a Tourist Card Worth It?

My friend and I purchased a cheap round-trip flight to Zurich just before the Swiss government removed their currency’s peg to the euro. How greatly this decision affects our travel expenses remains to be seen, but Zurich was known as an expensive city even before the change. The news prompted me to explore ways of […]

Delta 2015 SkyMiles Updates — Good News, For Once!

Okay, when a frequent flyer program announces "updates" in this day and age it's almost uniformly negative. And that's especially true for Delta SkyMiles, which is quite possibly the biggest "innovator" when it comes to airline loyalty program.

Anyway, Delta announced some updates to the 2015 SkyMiles program. The updates are minor, and in many cases they're not even "updates" since they're just rehashing what has already been done. That being said, they are worth covering, in my opinion.

Here they are, in no particular order:
