Oneworld Bonus Miles For Transatlantic Business Class Flights

A few times per year, the airlines participating in the oneworld transatlantic joint venture seem to offer bonus miles for paid transatlantic premium cabin travel. For example, a few months ago they offered up to 25,000 bonus miles per roundtrip.

American AAdvantage and British Airways Executive Club are back with one of these offers again, offering up to 125,000 bonus miles for transatlantic travel:

-- Up to 125,000 bonus American AAdvantage miles

-- Up to 125,000 bonus British Airways Avios

Review: W Seattle Hotel

Since I lived in the Seattle area for 18 months, it had been years since I've checked out the local hotel offerings. So during my recent trip to Seattle I figured I'd check out a few new properties. I love the Hyatt options in Seattle -- I usually stay at the Hyatt Olive 8, though love the Grand Hyatt as well. I'll have reviews of both of them soon.

However, during my recent visit both Hyatt options were sold out one of the nights, so I instead booked the W Seattle, which had a rate of ~$200.

I really hesitated to book the hotel, because long time readers will know I strongly dislike most US W properties. Abroad Ws are among my favorite hotels -- the W Taipei, W Sentosa Cove Singapore, W Guangzhou, and W Doha are all absolutely fantastic beyond words. But in the US, W properties just leave a lot to be desired, in my opinion.

Department of Transportation Has Announced an Audit of Frequent Flyer Programs

Earlier this year the Supreme Court limited the ability of consumers to sue frequent flyer programs, suggesting that the Airline Deregulation Act prevents state law claims against frequent flyer programs because it requires that all regulation of the airlines be done at the federal level. Strictly speaking you could sue for direct breach of contract […]

LifeMiles Award Chart Devaluation Coming

Since joining the Star Alliance a bit over two years ago, Avianca's LifeMiles program has proven to be one of the more useful programs for premium cabin Star Alliance redemptions. They had a rough time at first, as they made a few award chart changes without notice, which were met with a lot of frustration by members.

Back in July, LifeMiles announced that they would be devaluing their award chart as of October 15, 2014. Of course nobody likes to see award chart devaluations, though to their credit they gave plenty of advance notice, which I far prefer to their previous system of unannounced devaluations. A few days after they announced the changes, they released their new Star Alliance award chart, which kicks in then. The changes are substantial though not horrible, in my opinion.
